And the delayed chapter 9.
Decided to switch to a more straight forward chapter then the one I originally planned.
Also it's the longest yet, talking about Knuckles, Tails, Eggman, Heroes and a bunch of small stuff in one fell swoop.

Also subtitles.
Sorry if it becomes a pain when the videoclips also include other subtitles. Not to mention the visuals. That's exactually why I didn't put subtitles in the original chapters.

And there's a stupid glitch where some clips suddenly freeze halfway that I can't fix or udnerstand why it happens. Yay.

Not sure if I'm going back to the others and add them there, gonna be a mess.
Not to mention I have seemed to accidently delete chapter 7 so can't edit that one anyway.. Ghah.
Damn December months anyway, going to be busy.

As always, thanks to Luke for his amazing voice.
Video's from Sega's Sonic, as usual.
Thanks to Youtube for some video assistance.

I miss older Eggman to be honest. Don't get me wrong I really like current Eggman to an extent but this is a man who continued to raise the stakes over the course of the first 3 games. The 3 is my personal favorite story wise because I'm a big fan of implications (when done right) and objectives left up to the individual to decipher in their own way. This is a man who literally set fire to a jungle possibly killing wildlife just so he can kidnap the animals to become slave batteries for his machines. Actively persuaded a native of the island he was on to go against Sonic so he can steal the master emerald (and succeeded). I also get the fact of Doomsday zone being the last shot....if you mess up then that's it for you and the people and animals you tried to protect. Let's not forget Sonic CD where he KIDNAPPED A FREAKING PLANET. Sure he did so in Sonic Colors but the demeanor tells a clear story of both. In CD there's definitely venom in it while in Colors he's just a bumbling fool waiting for his plan to fail.

Indeed, let's hope the next game gives Eggman something cool to do.

I'm just hoping they stop making him act as a secretary to a less interesting villain. Like what they did in Sonic Lost World and Sonic Boom (in my opinion).

Well, he was more then just a secretary in Lost world, he had interesting bits that could ahve been great.
Lost world's problem is more that that story seems to be a collection of good ideas that never become part of an actual narrative.
A brief flash of intereting story and character development shows up in one cutscene and then immediatly disentergrates for the punchline, never to be seen again.
To be honest, I don't really care if Eggman's in service of a diffrent enemy or not, it's kinda lame but not the real problem.
Real problem is that the writers spend too much time making him goofy and clumsy and stupid and keep forgetting to give him any cool moments. He needs a healthy mix between theatrical clown and robotic dictator, and the balance is gone.
So even when he ends up being the big bad guy, in Colors, Generations and Lost world, I don't give a hoot.
This isn't DR. IVO ROBOTNIK EGGMAN, this is just Mike Pollock cosplaying as Eggman while drunk.

That's an interesting way of putting it to be honest. I think Boom is when all of it comes full circle to culminate how much of an non-entity Eggman has become. Despite the evidence of the cartoon he really isn't that important to anything and in the cartoon's case it's ONLY because Lyric's presence is minute at best. He's more of a big oaf now only serving as a walking punchline something I can't stand personally because it tells me he isn't an actual character rather a joke.

I'e been thinking. WTF is the point of Eggmanland. Is it just an empire for Eggman so he can cross that off his list of things to accomplish in life, or is there an actual point to Eggmanland.

By the way I've not had much experience with Sonic Games.

I suppose it's supposed to be his ultimate goal, a city for his own pure amusement.

IQ of Over 300, Can't make a life support and Virtual reality thingy. Good job SEGA for making the worst Genius ever

Problem with high inteligence is that you need more then raw IQ's to think perfectly. You also need focus, but not too much focus that you fail to notice indirect or alternative ideas, ability to apply your theories into practical use, time, technical skills, an interest in several diffrent principles of knowledge, as ONLY knowing everything about engineering or only about Biology or only mystical powers won't be enough to create a chaos emerald powered robotizer, you need to know about all subjects.

So yeah. Lot of factors.

Still He's easily able to make robots with an incredibly human like personalitys, spaceships, theme parks in space(I imagine, never played Colours. I hear the things the size of a planet but that only what I've heard),a space STATION, a time traveling robot/ mystical being and to top it all off he made nothing that could beat Sonic, but planet sized city for his own amusement is hard because apparently you need a planet to start with for that. I guess he's not terribly stupid though, He managed to do all this right under the worlds nose soooo yeah...

As much as I enjoyed Sonic Heroes, I have to admit if the future games just continued from the Adventure series, the games, characters and stories could have taken a turn for the better. I mean nowadays, Knuckles appears stupid, Amy is annoying and Shadow is written as a selfish douchebag in Free Riders. And like the question in this episode, why is Blaze celebrating a birthday party outside her dimension? She must be a VERY good friend of Sonic if she is willing to go through the struggles of getting to another world. Oh yes, and finally, remember in Sonic Chronicles when Tails constantly reminds you to save the game?

Despite being a Shadow fan, from a critical perspective I have noticed that the amnesia concept in Shadow's case was handled rather poorly. Sonic Heroes for example contains a lot of plot holes, why didn't Shadow ask the other characters about the events of SA2? Shadow doesn't question his past to Rouge or Amy at any point in Heroes, this makes Shadow's amnesia appear as just another cliché plot device, rather than something truly moving. Amnesia is much better portrayed in games such as 'Amnesia the Dark Descent' if you ask me, it's fine to use it in a story but it MUST be written well.

As for characters like Silver, I really think he could have had a great potential despite the fact that he was just added for the sake of Sonic's 15th anniversary. I'm not exactly sure why but if I created Silver I would have made him a porcupine, not just because he looks more like one, but 'Silver the Porcupine' sounds less generic than 'Silver the Hedgehog' if you see what I mean.

Silver the procipine.
Heh, interesting name.
Would at least deflect the endless "Another hedgehog????" complaints.

Yep XD

It would have been nicer if SEGA added more variety in their characters, today I realised that (in my opinion) Shadow looks more like a Streaked Tenrec than a hedgehog upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia… , it even has the nickname 'The fake hedgehog'!

Obviously I cannot be certain but SEGA may have based some of their characters off spiny critters that resemble hedgehogs, only to give them the title 'hedgehog' in order to create another rival for Sonic. I know after watching 'Dissected' that the lines 'I am the ultimate hedgehog!' sound rather silly, but according to SEGA the title 'hedgehog' means another 'super awesome' character that is willing to challenge Sonic.

I personally think a rivalry between 3 different spiked animals would have been more interesting (although kind of amusing at the same time).

I agree that many aspects of characters aren't used anymore. I mean, if you came in as late as I did, you wouldn't know half, no 3/4, of what Sonic's friend have. You wouldn't know that Knuckles is the guardian of the Master Emerald, Blaze is from another world, Rouge is a GUN agent, or even characters like Shade and Marine.

Eggman Nega's story is just a complete mess and I blame Sonic Rivals. To me, Sonic Rivals was created to cover up Sonic 06. But personally, I would take the Sonic 06 storyline over the Sonic Rivals story. At least Sonic 06 had something going for it in terms of story (minus Sonic's story, that one was pointless). Shadow and Silver had character developments in their stories and the gamer could feel for them when something bad happened to them.

I think the problem is that Sonic is a series, but there's no consistency. The only games that I saw that had consistency were the Sonic Adventure games. There was some references from the first game in the second one such as Tails stopping the missile. In terms of story, once SEGA has the gameplay down pat, they should focus on filling in the major plot holes and weave the main story arc games together. But that's just me and I'm just one person so whatever.

Or at least have one guy in charge that oversees the general story structure yeah. Ah well.

How about Joss Whedon or JJ Abrams?
Rogerregorroger's avatar
RogerregorrogerHobbyist Filmographer
They're probably not interested in videogames.
And both probably reboot the series from the beginning.
EliseLowing's avatar
EliseLowingHobbyist General Artist
Well, I don't think one person in charge would be a good idea. But maybe a group of people to keep track of things.

What I do is before I start a story, I choose who's part of the cast, write down their bios of how they should act, behave, and how they could develop in the story. Then I go onto the story from there.

Then again, SEGA's probably sick of all the criticism the fanbase gives them. What I like about your vids is that they're pretty much non-bias and they hit on points that other fans don't notice.
Rogerregorroger's avatar
RogerregorrogerHobbyist Filmographer
well, not saying one person should write all stories, just one that keeps the main universe in mind.
The Jk Rowling, the Arthur Conan Doyle, the TRR Tolkien. The master of the universe overseeing the writers. Or a character bible, as you describe.

Yeah, I made this video's ESPECIALLY to be as neutral as possible. I only bring in more emotion when I go against the general train of thought.

Oh okay.

It irritates me when someone gives a review on a game based on their opinions but they twist it in a way that makes their opinions sound like facts. Ugh, makes me cringe.
