The only thing I'd add would be a bit of glare on the canopy, then it would be perfect! :3

This is my second or third most favorite of American WW2 fighters.  First is the P-47 (one of the most underrated of American fighters), the a/c that competes with the P-38 is the F6F Hellcat.  Number 4 is the F4U.

Lovely render with great POV and lighting... Built quite a few of those - including the Revel 1/38 scale kit - when I was a lot younger. Great aircraft!

Always wondered whether it inspired the de Havilland Vampire...

Great render, well done! :-)

The Germans called it Gabelschwanzteufel, that means Fork Tailed Devil. The had great respect on this aircraft. Great picture.

Did the Japanese really refer the Lightning as "two planes, one pilot"?

They might have done. I have read somewhere they also called it the Forked Tail Devil.

It was the Germans who called it that.  Drew.

I actually like the experimental aircraft that each power were developing, like the German Me-163 and me-262, the British jet fighter (the comet I think it was called), and so on.

Hell, even the misfits of the war were interesting!

yup ww2 captures the imagination so much of man's focus on weapons.  The best and worst of weapons.
