Battle Artist 03 Scarab by robthesentinel Battle Artist 03 Scarab by robthesentinel
My third single battle over at :iconbattle-artist:

Scarab, from the Kabuki series. I...could be happier with it I guess but overall I like it even though I was at a loss for the background. The blood spatter is kind of generic, but interesting enough. I mostly am proud of the drawing, which started off as a sketch but ended up being a fully rendered drawing. It's only on a piece of 8.5x11 printer paper though, haha. Still, it was fun to do. Thanks for looking, wish me luck on the battle!

Hey thanks a lot! Good job using the charcoal on yours, tough but fun medium to work with. Also, I forgot if I commented, but your Kratos totally reminded me of Phil Noto's work. Nice style.

Thanks! I based my Kratos off a picture I found on Google... perhaps it WAS Noto's work, I don't know for sure. :XD:

And as for Charcoal being tough to work with... it was, until I discovered a tissue and an eraser are your best friends when working with Charcoals. I love using them, and they've always come quite naturally to me. In fact, in hindsight, I wish I'd used the Subtraction method to my Scarab piece, instead of addition - coloring the whole page black, then erasing - because the piece would have been that much bolder... oh well, maybe I'll revisit it. Either way, good luck in the challenge!

i'm with voltage - this rocks, and love that you got to put in a fully rendered piece - totally impressive, a ton of great detail and elegance to it, and think you're a bit tough on our background....it all flows together really well and the simplicity ties it all together perfectly.

Hey thanks a ton. Yeah I tend to be hard on my backgrounds a lot, haha. I'm glad it looks good to you though!
