Interstellar Voyager by robrey Interstellar Voyager by robrey
Oil, 6 x 8 in

This month marks the 40th anniversary of the Voyager 1 launch, the first human spacecraft to leave the solar system.

"The Voyager record would include greetings in sixty human languages and one whale language, an evolutionary audio essay, 116 pictures of life on Earth and ninety minutes of music from a glorious diversity of the world's cultures. The engineers projected a one-billion-year shelf life for the golden phonograph records.
"How long is a billion years? In a billion years the continents of Earth would be so altered that we would not recognize the surface of our own planet. One thousand million years ago, the most complex life forms on Earth were bacteria. In the midst of the nuclear arms race, our future, even in the short term seemed a dubious prospect. Those of us privileged to work on the making of the Voyager message did so with a sense of sacred purpose. It was conceivable that, Noah-like, we were assembling the ark of human culture, the only artifact that would survive into the unimaginably far distant future."
- Ann Druyan

I am curious, was this meant to look like Raven from The 100? If not, the coincidence is just wild bc in this last season(spoiler alert), when she believes she is going to die, she fixes up a shuttle to send herself into space so that she can "float" herself, and die among the stars. And your lady really does look like her!

Serendipitous! I'm not familiar with Raven or The 100. Thanks for the observation.

I thought you were going to make a painting about the end of Cassini. It made me dream so much.
That being said, great painting as usual. I don't always comment but (I guess you don't care) I'm a big fan of your paintings. There is always a soul, a good combination of sense of aesthetism and symbolism in your picture. Thumbs Up

Oh, I did do a little study for Cassini, but I forgot to post it on DA. Here it is:  Cassini, Final Observations by robrey
Thanks!

Just by curiosity, why did you give up on this one and didn't push it to a finished level. Everything was fine if you ask me.
By the way, I don't know if you will be interested but I made few months ago a painting somewhat related to this serie. Of course, it's nothing near good compared to yours but still, I'd like to have an honest feed back from you:

I haven't given up on it, I may still paint a larger version. I've just had more demand for smaller works recently so I've built up a backlog of studies that I haven't had time to create full images for.

Great image! The subtlety of the shadows is nice. I wonder where she is aiming. The string hand looks a little awkward. Perhaps you followed your reference too closely. Try taking new reference photos or push the forms until they feel right, regardless of whether they're photo-accurate. I hope that helps!

Oh my! Thank you immensely for your critic. I ear the downsides and try to correct them.
I'm looking forward seeing a finished Cassini picture. I'm curious, usually from start to finished version, how long does it take to complete? (including preperation sketches and studies)
