The Gateway
Known to the world as simply, The Gateway.  The Gateway spans the only passage between Ociana Woest and Ociana Ester.  The gate has kept the peace between the lands on  both oceans for over 1000 years.

A council made up of representatives of countries on both sides of the gate swear to protect the gate and the passage.  A rigid process guides the selection of volunteer military personnel charged with that duty.

By treaty, only merchant traffic passes through The Gateway.  By design, most warships cannot pass through the arches.  Any ships which can carry cannon would be tremendously outclassed by the warships patrolling the oceans on either side.

Because of it's location in the warm lower latitudes; it's security and military force; and the ease of getting passage to The Gateway, a tourist economy nearly funds the operation.  A small access fee, so low as to be insignificant to merchants, provides the remaining costs of operation.

Perspective in FlowScape
See previous post about FlowScape.  Each time you start, you use the same sized chunks of land.  (Variations of sea/lake side, with streams that can be 'removed', hills, valleys, even a turtle and snow globe.  User controls surface materials and objects.

Here I played with the object sizes to create a bit of forced perspective... smaller objects in background, larger in foreground, played with focus, aperture, fog settings.   The software runs animations (clouds move, animals raise their heads) with music in background (controlled by user).  You can even have it raining with lightning.

You also can take a snapshot of your view and save as jpg file.  Not bad for $10 USD.

So, lesson learned: easy to make a small garden or a large landscape.

Edited Rabbit in field
Came across some software call Flow Scape.  Google it.

While I am not above shameless promotion of products and people, I do try to keep it low keyed.  Besides, would you trust a link I gave you?

Nice software for $10 USD.  it is 'billed' as a game. You create landscapes and populate it with animals, trees, other objects.  The results are animated on a limited basis. Examples, animals move their heads, birds fly, water ripples).  Also includes controls on the background sounds an music.  Lots of lighting and camera controls and options.  You can save an image for use as background.

Takes a bit to get used to the UI, but the results are great.  This was my first 'publishable' attempt.  Still not the best but for an early effort, I think not bad.  I'll post another in a few.

Your image fits the theme (IMO). A great concept using a black unicorn. I have always found it difficult to create night images that work. You have created a decent image in that regard.

For me the background elements and unicorn look flat, almost a cut and paste backdrop. I think adding a 'rim light' would help add some depth to the image. The unicorn's mane should provide a natural looking separation from the sky. It would also help bring the unicorn more to the forefront and not quite blend into the columns at his rear end. I think the woman's hair would benefit and give a halo effect around her head that would be brighter than the illumination you have.

The composition seems a bit off, maybe that's intentional. Everything seems 'clumped' at the center of the image.

If you 'block out' the image you have the moon as a main block and a larger black block with the woman. You have a third small block (area) is the magic effect. They don't seem to balance the composition. I'd suggest using that 'blocking' approach to balance the composition.

Think about the '1/3 rule'. Using the right side vertical line, put the woman's eyes on one side of that line and the unicorn's eyes on the other side. If you move them over as a block until unicorn's rump on the last column. It looks like their eyes line up on the top horizontal guideline already. Bringing the woman and unicorn closer together would be a challenge, but it would tighten the relationship between them as story characters.

I think such adjustment would add focus and help balance the image's composition a bit. Also, with the rim light mentioned above, they would stand out more in the picture.

Again, a nice vision and concept that implies a story line. You show a relationship between the unicorn and the mystic woman as they consider their next course of action.

I hope you find this critique useful.
Well, I am not much to submit regular comments.  But a word or two seems appropriate to my 'watchers'.

I have been a quite inactive in creating artwork (some photos and such).  Main reason is that my main computer at home has  been limping by (barely).  Hard to even do simple photo editing.

OK - to be fair - it is an ancient (by PC terms) P4/486 processor; probably 7-8 years old.  I've maxed the memory, updated the drives and video cards, etc.  In reality, it has outlived most computers

I do some art work on 'my' (employer owned) laptop.  But I do not have all the tools I would want there.  (After all, I don't own it.  It is subject to company policies as to content and such.)  I have some interesting 'texture' images I will likely post in near future after a bit of tweaking.

Hopefully in next few months I will get a new computer and get back to doing 3D and heavier photo manips.

Thanks to my watchers for their patience.
