Gamecube and Controller Zelda Tribute WIP

"It's a very simple thing. If you want to make something that's really special, you have to spend a lot of time on it."

Got the color pencils finished on this GameCube controller. This is just one part of the three-piece Zelda spread I'm cooking up for the 40th anniversary. It's gonna be a 12x16 Link in the center with the console and this controller on 8x8s flanking him. Still gotta hit the background with some watercolor and pop those highlights with a Posca, but I'm saving that for the final pass.

Also, yeah, I'm aware the Z buttons are symmetrical, but my client has a controller with symmetrical buttons so that's how I drew it. This isn't a historically accurate piece reflecting day-one GameCube release history, it's just a fun tribute piece featuring a giant, oversized Link that'll eventually sit between this controller and the cube.

Coloring this was super fun and went by quick, maybe an hour? It didn't take long at all, I'm coloring Link now though and that's definitely gonna take a bit.
