Not sure whether our paths have crossed before, but I just wanted to gush about how great your art is. The attention to detail and visual polish are nothing less than top-drawer, and the exaggerated anatomy of your character designs is very unique and appealing. You, sir, are a legend.

... It's rad that you're into video games in a creative way (drawing for GameFan - very cool!), but do you ever get involved in game development? It'd be awesome to actually play your art - I think your drawing style would adapt very well to an interactive format.

... They say that every writer has a novel inside them? Well, I think that every gamer has a game inside them. It's never been easier to break into the industry - if a hobo like me can do it, you certainly can. :D

Yeah I’ve worked in games here and there. I was a concept artist on Spyro Reignited, Crash Bandicoot 4, Crash Team Rumble, some Crash 5 stuff that never saw the light of day, plus a bit on Overwatch 2 and an indie called Berserk Boy you can actually grab right now.

Closest thing to my style making it into a game would be the Offbeat level in Crash 4. It’s the ghostly New Orleans stage. They basically took one of my drawings and built the whole level from it. The buildings, the skulls, the lighting… it’s probably the best example of my art being playable.

I’ve tried to get something fully in my style off the ground from 2018 to 2023 with a few indie folks, but no one wanted to handle the coding side. I’d rather just draw anyway. Math isn’t my thing.

I checked out some of your videos too. Would be great to see full gameplay because from what I saw they look cool. Really appreciate the positive feedback, man. Means a lot. And stoked to see you out there making stuff too.

I should have guessed someone with your artistic skill and passion for gaming would have combined the two - that's on me. Gotta say though, if I had those gigs on my resume, I'd never shut up about it! Mad respect for Berserk Boy in particular - thank you for supporting the indie games industry.

I totally feel you on the coding situation, but it really doesn't have to be a roadblock; the closest thing to programming I've ever done is typing out BASIC programs from books, way back in the days of the ZX Spectrum (man, the 'Eighties were great!). I'm four decades to the good, and I still can't get a computer to say 'Hello World!' - furthermore, I'm going to go on record here, and say that I fucking hate math. My point is that there are options out there for creative gamers who want to go beyond just playing games - some of the indie scenes' most memorable successes were 'written' on such programs. Undertale and Spelunky? GameMaker. Freedom Planet? Macromedia Fusion. The list goes on.

... There would have been a time where not knowing a programming language meant that becoming a game designer was a lost cause - but time and technology are wonderful things. Much like the recent developments in A.I. allow for anyone to be an 'artist' (I know, I know... I'm not entirely happy about that statement either - I use the term really, really loosely), now anyone with an idea, and the drive to see it succeed, can 'write' a game. I think what I'm saying is that if you enjoyed your time working for companies like Blizzard, you could have that again - only this time without having to compromise on the things that those parent companies didn't approve of (I bet there were a fuck-ton of those... Blizzard is notorious for that!).

In other news, thank you so much for having a look at my work, and for the positive feedback - I'm truly honoured. I'm sure I can't be the only one out there who wonders at times whether the artistry game is worth pursuing, and perhaps there's something I should be doing instead - but then I get input from super-talented folk like yourself, and I remember why I got into it in the first place.

... Many thanks, Mr. D. Much appreciated. :D
