Base Camp by RobCaswell Base Camp by RobCaswell
Last night I did my first PoseRay translation from Lightwave to OBJ. I chose Taranis' Galileo update, designed to accompany Madkoifish's Connie Redesign. This would make a great accompaniment to a New Adventure Trek texture set!! Hmmmm........

Mesh and Textures by Taranis (Gerard Duffy). Background by Didi_mc. Rendered in DAZ Studio and finished in Photoshop

This is AWESOME! I LOVE it! This is how I feel the shuttles should've looked in the animated series as an stopgap refit to bridge the TOS Era with the TMP Era.

This design could be seen as the forerunner for the shuttles in TNG and the Danube class.

Of all the shuttles in Trek's history, it's the Danube class and the classic movie era shuttles that come closest to the TOS Era shuttles.

Simply brilliant scene, I particularly like the framing created by the rock and plant. Wonderful.

Thanks! Yeah, a framing element works well when you got nuthin' but desert and sky. Glad you like! :)

Very good. It looks much larger than a standard shuttle and more realistic for use as a base camp.

Actually I think it's close to the same size as the original shuttle. Maybe a shade bigger. I think it's just proportioned different.

yes its a little longer and taller but not by much.... I created partitions within the model to create a more secure airlock system. what you donīt see in Arcass great render is that detail.

there are 2 way to enter or exit the shuttle.. the main is at the rear and the other is an EVA or if needs be an escape hatch. Here there a small hatches that is supposed to house some eva suits and helmets ,, I am building a eva suit based on the one seen in STAR TREK TMP my personal favourite film.

I will stop hijacking Arcass page now :)

but thanks for you comments on the design.

EVA suit? Cool? Just for Lightwave or are you thinking of rigging it for Poser? The Poser world desperately needs good space suits! And I'm with ya - I liked the TMP designs.

for Lightwave originally but as I cannot rig at all. A friend has offered to do it. its for a larger project. but I will be releasing them once thats completed and if Poser users want to alter it for poser use I will help if I can.

I am modelling it based around a Poser character.

Check my gallery and I will post an image.

The render was done in DAZ Studio 3. I think Pose Ray may be only PC... but since I have a PC, I'm not totally sure it's exclusive.

Wonderful, Koifish sure nailed a good balance of the old and new in the shuttle design. Nicely done and I love the framing. :)

Actually I think that Taranis' design, created to echo Madkoifish.... isn't it?

Ah, my mistake then, that's what I get after a long walk from school LOL.

Taranis' shuttle could use a window on the sides though, it looks a bit too plain but then again, minimalism was a trademark of the TOS era. :D

True. In that respect it does echo TOS. I don't think those tiny slits on the sliding doors really counted as "windows". "Peep holes", maybe ;P

Yeah, yeah, yeah. Another great image. You know, I could do that too if I had talent! Bloody show off.

Note - In the future, please create only images that are 2560 px by 1600 px (or at a similar ratio) so I can use them as desktops. I get tired of having to crop every one of your images. I mean, show some consideration! Of course, you COULD stop creating really cool images that I HAVE to put on my desktop. That would solve the problem too.

I'm sorry I'm such a horrible friend. :hmm: I shall strive to make amends. When I get home tonight I'll turn my quad core render monster into naught but an unwieldy doorstop which shall, from this day forth, feast on the pains of my stubbed toes. I'll break out my old Commodore 128, which I never should have cast aside, and buy a brand new set of crayons. With luck my days of exciting, wallpaper-worth images are at an end. Fingers crossed!

Thank you. It's nice to know I can count on you to come through for me. Soon, when everyone else follows your example, I will become the greatest 3d artist in the world. I am not above achieving glory by, as Homer Simpson noted, the two greatest words in the English language...De Fault!

Also, don't dis the C-128. When I started working at TSR, I brought mine in from home to write on because it was better than the computers we had in the office.

Honest.
