COBRA 'Shore Leave' by RobbVision COBRA 'Shore Leave' by RobbVision
Here is a fun painting I did for our latest Unlce Lou's Fetch -A-Sketch Challenge. Check out :iconhaaspodge: illsutration.

It is depicting everyone's favorite chrome-domed arm's dealer Destro and his gal-friend The Baroness enjoying a night on the town.

Soon I will post a step-by-step guide for the making of this painting.

The little kid inside me who had fifteen year old me watch GI Joe on the Hub channel just died a little. I love how with it you were on having fun with this piece, even going so far as giving Destro's ride plastic missiles. I just wish I'd stop confusing Destro's arm with Baroness'!

hey thanks a lot! I wanted to make him larger than life...not that the silver mask would not make him stand out.

too funny; I love Baroness' and Destro's nonchalant "civilian mode" attitudes.

I was totally into GI but I, too, was more into Transformers and He-Man. It was hard to be a kid around then and not be totally addicted to all those shows.

BLECH!

Yeah, I always said I wouldn't be that guy who says "Music today sucks... and so do the cartoons. In my day we..." but I am starting to feel that way. I'm not a total lost cause but I like programing more when it wasn't built around fighting ADD.

HA! me too! But I am always complaining. I'm trying to collect older cartoons from my childhood so my daughter can watch them someday.

We let her watch bits of Sesame Street which she seems to love, mostly Elmo. Watching it I'm asking myself, "WHERE ARE ALL THE COOL OLD SCHOOL CHARACTERS LIKE THE TW0-HEADED MONSTER?" the show is a lot "cuter" than the old version i remember as a kid.

That's what happens with so many good ideas. They start out raw and unfiltered generally hinging on insanity and then wen people have recognized how good it is it gets put through the machine and all the edge is taken out.

Sigh.

I should just by a rocking chair and a shotgun and start my many years of terrorizing the kids in my neighborhood. Gotta work on my "Stay offa my Lawn!" voice.

I know! I always love looking back at the original versions of classic known characters. Look at how goofier and silly looking the Muppets were when they first came out...the Simpsons, Garfield, Woody Woodpecker....Bugs Bunny...all went from uglier and duller looking (color wise) to BRIGHT colors and much rounder, softer looking....happier looking.

Woody Woodpecker is the most obvious!

I prefer the old classic versions! HA!!

I noticed the stubble of my beard is looking silverish lately...I'm starting to fit the look! Now I'm going to wear some stained wife-beater undershirts, and black socks pulled up to my knees and water the lawn with a pissed off expression on my face!

Oh man. The disaffected look on Baroness, the clenched jaw on Destro, the way the vehicular carnage contrasts against that delicately raised pinkie -- I've glanced at your gallery and your playful stylized treatment of a lot of cartoon and game icons is astounding. You've really gotten a distinctive, SOLID stylistic identity here, and you'd better believe I am loving every single line and shading of it! :D

Hey thanks a lot Heather!

That is one of the things I struggle with is trying to find a solid "art identity". You just made my day!
