Miniature Fantasy Tudor Cottage Ice Cream Door

Chocolate / Vanilla / Strawberry

This is a wood door I made in 1:12 scale for an Ice Cream & Pastry Shop I was building several years ago.  I'm repurposing it for another larger European Storybook style Cottage model that will have ground floor shops & upstairs living space.

It's about 7" at the highest and it swings freely on finish nail pin hinges set in small holes with flat washers. I like the header over the door, but the side jambs are just too curvy and "Art Deco" looking so I'll redo them with heavier looking vertical posts for the classic rustic Tudor look. The faux hinges are just basswood painted black to look like castle hinges.

The door is all wood strips I ripped on the table saw, the window is clear acrylic I embedded into it with thin notches milled in the wood frame. I sketched the Ice Cream Cone artwork on white paper then I used heavy black thread as the stain glass leading. The colors are from those light catcher kid toys they make butterflies etc and drip the colors into the clear molds and when dry hang in the window on suction cups. I like blending the colors so I drip yellow on one edge and brown on the other and blend them together with a toothpick then let dry. The final effect looks really good especially when the door is closed and the interior room is lit up.
