JNR Shinkansen N2 car 21-2 IMG 8369

Control car 21-2 of Japanese National Railways Series 0 Shinkansen bullet train N2 (Nippon Sharyō, 1964) sits on display at the Railway Museum (Saitama City) as the first Tokyo-Osaka "Hikari" super express. JNR wanted the world's first bullet train to resemble a jet plane on wheels, both inside and outside. Early sets like N2 had a fiberglass nose cone with a large central headlight, perhaps also inspired by jet planes, but that was replaced with a more durable opaque nose for the rest of Series 0. It also reminds me of the starship Enterprise's deflector dish in Star Trek.
