Well well well! A monochrome drawing
I am quite surprised!
Woah man, though, I have a lot I like about this picture. The characters look good, but what especially I like are the colours and Midas' coat. And yes, I am going to go into lengthy specifics about why I like Midas' coat 8D
Anyway, the colours are the type of what I like about certain monochrome colouring styles: despite there being literally a single colour (if we don't count Midas' eye) as the name monochrome suggests, the amount of shades here makes the picture so... vibrant. Without a multitude of colours such a sight is quite welcome. Generally the colours serve their intended purpose of giving depth, and personally I feel that monochrome colouring, especially with shades of gray, has a sort of chiaroscuro-effect when it comes to depth, deepening the shadows and creating a stronger illusion of 3D-space. But what rises above that on my own scale is the way you've managed texture here, especially, ESPECIALLY with Midas' mask. The strong shadows with the equally contrasting light spots create such a vivid feeling and texture of polished metal that I'm really impressed you've managed to create something like it. At least for me, metal is very difficult material to colour and to manage to make it look like metal, so you've done an amazing job here regarding it. What plays lovely into the colouring is the gray-coloured background which looks like a wallpaper due to the shadows cast by the characters, but it's significantly lighter than Midas and darker than Mar, making it the perfect go-between with their respective colour palettes and separating both the fore- and the background as well as the two characters from one another.
The second really amazing thing has got to be Midas' coat. Like, sure, I always like coats but this time Midas' coat has a lot of design points that make it look, simply put, cool. The collar and the tail of the coat are what really strike out to me as amazingly good-looking. The collar works both with and against the metal mask from a design standpoint: on the one hand, it has similar "spikes" as the mask has, but the spikes are a lot more sharp and less elegant than in the mask, creating both a contrast AND a tie-in with the mask, which works as a nice segue into the coat. Not to mention the colour coordinates with that of his hair, making the colour palette uniform in a lovely way. The tail of his coat is just absolutely amazing, I have to say. I have a personal love for frayed clothes and especially cloaks, but the addition of making the coat float upwards is what seals the deal for me: it adds into Midas' supernatural aura and gives him a villain-y feeling, which might be interesting to have depending on his personality.
Mar has a very interesting design as well, she has a lot of curvy shapes, most of which aren't even on her body and to contrast that, her body is quite straight. I think it breaks the stereotypical female body while still enforcing the beauty of it. Applying curves to other parts than directly her anatomy was quite the good choice, me thinks. And her eyes, man. You've always had a knack for beast eyes and here it works wonders on her character. While the eyes could be seen as a symbol of a snake and therefore of treachery and malign wits, the look on her face is quite kind.
All in all, I love the use of contrasting themes and techniques you've used here! I'm sure it came as no surprise that I am a fan of monochrome works, though xD
