Cosplay: Lina Inverse

My Lina Inverse costume!

Aside from the gems, which I commissioned from :iconamethystarmor:, every part of this costume was made by me. Needless to say, there's about three months of work in this, between sewing the clothing and cape and making the shoulder armour, belts and talismans.

If you're unfamiliar with the character, here's a couple of reference pictures: [link] [link]

The talismans and shoulder armour are made from sheet plastic, all cut to shape, glued together with hot glue and painted. The clothing and cape were sewn without use of patterns and boots are boot-covers glued to a pair of slip-ons. The gloves I bought (yay for not needing to make those!). The earrings are modified Christmas decorations. =P

The wig is actually one and a half wigs; I bought two then added wefts and the fringe from one to the other, as one alone wouldn't have enough body for Lina's crazy puffy hair.

It was great fun being Lina! She's such a fun character. My favorite part of the costume is the cape, it's so swooshy!

Excellent Lina Inverse! Kudos for styling the hair antennae. I haven't seen anyone do that yet.

I think I'm going to combine wigs for my Lina too. She just has so much HAIR especially BANGS! x_x

question: how does one splice two wigs together?

i've contemplated the idea before but never tried it as i wouldn't know where to start.

You sew them together. There's a few ways of doing it, and it depends on what effect you want.

You can remove wefts from wigs by cutting them free from the wig one row at a time, or you can cut off a chunk of the wig with multiple wefts at once. If you remove wefts one at a time, you can sew these in rows in between wefts on another wig to make the wig thicker.

With the Lina wig, I did some of both. I cut the fringe part of one wig to attach to the front of the second wig where its fringe stops. This made the fringe from the second wig overlap the fringe from the first, giving a much thicker fringe. I also sewed individual wefts to the sides of the wig.

Sorry if that's confusing, I don't really know how else to explain it. No doubt there are some tutorials online if you search for them.

no, that's great

makes perfect sense lolz
i'd heard that people had merged two wigs before , but everytime i envisioned it - i got one wig ontop of the other...which we all know just doesn't work lolz

thank you - i might try my had at Chii from chobits now that i know that it's possible ;p

Thanks!

Sorry, I didn't take many photos while putting them together, so I can't make a tutorial. If you want to make your own, be prepared to spend a fair while cutting and taping together cardboard to make a pattern for it before you get to doing the real thing.

You might want to take a lot at proplady's tutorial instead, as the technique I used is quite similar: [link]

Bravo! Well done, especially on the accessories. I could never wear tight pants like that; I haven't Lina's body type. >.<
