So my old post from 2014 about uploading videos to DeviantArt has been getting a lot of attention, but I realise it's a little outdated so I'm making an updated, and hopefully more succinct version.
If the video you're wanting to upload can work as a gif or a flash file, those might be better options, and I go through that on my old post, but this one is about videos specifically.
Uploading Videos to DeviantArt***UPDATE 2018****
Hi guys! Most of you seem to be mainly concerned with how to submit a video specifically, rather than using gifs or flash files, so I've made a new post that better explains how the video uploading works.
So in the last little while I've had a few people ask me about submitting films to dA, and I remember how long it took to figure it out myself, so I thought I may as well explain the three ways that I am aware of that you can submit films to DeviantArt.
If anyone is aware of any more, comment and I'll add it~
The first is to turn your video into a gif, and submit it like that. Obviously this will only work if its a short clip without audio, which often is not the case. You may also lose some quality this way, but if you just want to show a short looping animation, this would work well.
Second, you can submit a flash file (.swf I believe). This, however, only works if you exported it in flash, so if you used any pos
Basically if you want to upload a video file to DeviantArt, you have to put it under the Film and Animation category, and to get access to the Film and Animation category, you have to apply.
Here is the page that explains it a little more, and also has a link to the application form. www.deviantartsupport.com/en/a…
You'll be asked to provide a link to you video, so I would suggest making sure you upload it to something like YouTube first.
They also don't allow copyrighted material, so be sure to credit anything in the video that isn't yours like music and images etc.
The whole process is very simple, and they tend to approve applications fairly quickly, so don't let it put you off! I think it's just a precaution so that people don't abuse uploading films and turn dA into YouTube.
Please comment or send me a note if you're having trouble and I'll see what I can do!
