My name is Heidi Riker. I am a soft sculpture artist, making realistic fantasy animals and creatures out of synthetic materials. You can see my work at www.facebook.com/rikercreatures
Vàli the White Spirit Stag is a one-of-a-kind, life-size sculpture that has taken me over a year to plan and complete. He is made with synthetic fur and has hand-sculpted antlers of my own design. No real animal parts were used in his construction, except feather decoration which were purchased from a cruelty-free supplier who collects the naturally-shed feathers.
Vàli is the spirit of the forest, watching over all the creatures and maintaining the delicate balance of nature. His fur is white, representing the purity and innocence of new life. His antlers, covered in moss, represent the natural decay of the forest; and how death leads to rebirth and growth. He is rarely seen, appearing only to those who he chooses - but he is present always, a steadfast sentinel gazing over all life in his forest domain, assuring the balance of life continues on undisturbed.
