DA asks me: “Are you an artist?”
Am I an artist? What does that mean?
Is that my profession? Have I made ANY money at it? Is it an exclusive relationship? Have I done work in the industry? Am I currently seeking work/commissions? Do I have a following? Am I union? Can I draw anything you ask for? Is it an excuse for dipsomania or some other perversion? Am I a cultural historian or critic? Do I doodle?
Born in the bronx, I grew up in and around the new york city area, finally settling into the village just as the psychedelic era was disappearing. I made a modest living as an urban-gardener/guerrilla-artist until 9/11 forced me into retirement. Time passes, children grow, travels and travails, and the creative impulse drives me on. Again.
My major interests are comic books, experimental music, natural science and history. There's never enough time so I tend to be pretty active and prefer getting physically involved rather than rely on technology. So, as much as I would prefer to do grand artworks that you have to dance through while creating, space restraints means I’m currently, almost exclusively, digital. I’m too old to party-on promote, too curmudgeonly to network, and too eclectic to brand.
