Description

In Early Jurassic India a mother Barapasaurus defends her young against a marauding Dandakosaurus.

Sometimes it´s not just certain species, but whole epochs that are overlooked in paleo-art and dinosaur documentaries. Particularly anything before the Late Jurassic. Barapasaurus is a dinosaur often mentioned in dinosaur books, but rarely depicted despite being the oldest large sauropod known. It´s 18 meters long and its name even means "big-legged lizard". Maybe it´s neglected because it lacks a big mean adversary like Allosaurus or Tyrannosaurus.

Enter Dandakosaurus. It is only known from a partial pubis and considered a dubious genus, but it´s enough evidence that there were large theropods around. Like :iconteratophoneus: I´ve combined the appearance of ceratosaurids and abelisaurids for this. While they´re not from the same formation both lived in India during the Toarcian, so they probably met. It would have been the first of many combats between monstrous bipedal predators and multi-ton long-necked herbivores.
