Hentai freaks me out. In a bad/creepy way. So I made a nice, sweet mermaid chopping tentacles to bits. Also, I love big sea monsters, so you know. It all works out.

I made the mermaid in warm and earthy tones (plus the neutrals in her fishiness), while the monster and background are presented in complimentary shades and hues (darker colors, blues, greens, and some sickly yellow here and there). The elements of the composition are also pretty straightforward I think. Strong top-left/bottom-right motion and light to dark transitions, with the mermaid straining and fighting the darkness. She's either pulling up into the light or being dragged down into the depths. The viewer's call. (I choose the light myself...)

In short, I'm using all of this (color & composition) to create a high contrast piece that hopefully brings across a certain amount of tension and conflict.

Proposed base card art for Bad Axe Studio's Dungeon Dolls trading card set. I'm also doing some sketch cards for them. I'm hoping to do one more for them, which I will probably scale down a bit to speed up the process.

If you like it, and would like to see it printed, please comment so :iconaxebone: sees it, and maybe post a message of support on Scoundrel if you have an account there.

8x10(ish), copic markers, colored pencil, watercolor, and photoshop on vellum bristol board.

How do you get into doing sketchcards? Is it a good side-profession to get into? :happybounce:

I'd say it's a decent side profession, but that's about it. The pay's kinda crap. :) You really find other reasons to do them if you do them at all. With this set, Axe is a great guy, paid reasonably well, offered great terms, and gave me a lot of leeway in what and how I made for the set.
