Marriage is a social construct.
There, I said it.
It's one of those ancient traditions that everyone treats like sacred truth—even though it's really just about wanting government approval for feelings you already have.
My parents weren't married, so I grew up with an outside eye on all of it. Marriage never made sense to me as a child—and as I got older, I realized the reason it never made sense was because it isn't supposed to. And for some reason, we've all agreed to keep pretending it does.
Let's stop pretending marriage is noble or necessary. It's time to call it what it really is: a leftover relic that should've gone extinct with witch-burnings and dowries.
