I would like to be able to translate your content into Portuguese, because there is no such rich collection on my language, and some people who do not speak English end up giving up because they do not find good content to study pixel art.

Hi! what software are you using in that tutorial?
RHLPixels's avatar
For that one I used XP's version of MS Paint! Although I recommend Graphics Gale or another program with layers as it would make it MUCH easier.

I've been doing vertexes wrong this whole time (using two pixels instead of three). I always wondered why it didn't look right. This really helps - thanks :)

No problem! It's one of those things that can be done either way and can be debated among pixel artists. Don't remember who exactly, I think it was Adarias or Cure, that mentioned that they found 3 to work best. Whoever mentioned it's a super pro pixel artist so I took their word for it LOL
Hyenax's avatar
Well I will take your word for it also! :D

oh very interesting how you used a simple cube in the first place... A Long since I last do that. Quite a memories. Also good works with all the sideway lighting  ( ' v ')9
RHLPixels's avatar
Ah, thank you so much! :D Your iso stuff is incredible, so you're probably so used to it that cubes are a thing of the past LOL

I always like to try isometry every so often, but then I get turned off because of how it's more methodical than artistic. Then I saw this tutorial.

And it inspired me to try one again, because of how you made the process look more artistic than architectural.

I'm open to suggestions--and perhaps it's because I'm going off of a reference--but I always seem to have trouble lining everything up quite right and actually having it look convincing...needless to say when it comes.to triangular alcove-like areas.

So what I'm asking is, do you also tend to backtrack a lot? "Oh, this is too long" "This is too short" "This needs to stick out more" etc? Or is it just me here =P
RHLPixels's avatar
OHHHHHHH YES LOL. Lots and lots of backtracking XD It's not like "in your face" stuff, but there's little changes in each example pic XD Like a few off-by-a-pixel alignment issues,  removed the carpet I was going to put there, etc etc... LOTS OF IT. That's so awesome though that you're getting inspired, 'tis something that makes me so happy :.D I can't draw environments by hand worth shit, but I discovered that I love pixelling environment things XD

The fact that you make everything look so simple motivates me to get back into this and try it again

borderless iso is pretty cool
RHLPixels's avatar
I quite like them borderless! With the building iso's, I draw a lot of inspiration from Breath of Fire IV's style
