I think it's fine that the creator wanna make it a closed specie and get some profit of it but I think some are a bit too expensive. I've brought I Madra, that is closed but it was rather cheap only 75points and a drawing (within an amount of days ofc or I wouldn't get the character or my points back) I think that was a very fair one. I've also just brought a polette, that was a bit expensive and I even picked one of the cheap ones.
But I think it's a bit over the top when the creator want like over 1000 points for a character, I would never give so much.
I don't really think either one is better than the other, but since closed species are harder to get, they seem more desirable, and open species don't get much attention. Just as much thought can be put into the creation of both. I believe Coykat's Fykirros are an open species, and I know she has put hours and hours of work into them. She is constantly updating them, and they're pretty damn cool too. On the other end, I have seen some closed species that get a lot of love and only have the appearances of the characters down. Nothing else, they just know how they look. And they sell within minutes. So it could really go either way
