Some basic things on how to get known:
- Post art regularly (but quality over quantity)
- Be active
- Comment, fave, give llamas and watches to other deviants
- Use the Deviation ThumbShare forum (https://www.deviantart.com/forum/showcase/thumbs/)
- Post your art in groups, preferably large and active ones
Else:
- I can recommend the art forums for any art-related questions.
- DAWelcomeWagon has lots of tutorials about the site and how to navigate it.
- ProjectComment is great for getting art critique!
- And, of course, have fun!

How does groups work exactly? It seems a bit confusing :)
Groups are essentially collections of artworks about a certain topic. This topic can be as wide as "all art" to very narrow, like dedicated to one specific character. Most are somewhere in between, like "digital art", "nature photography", or "felines".
If you join a group, you will get notifications when someone posts artwork there. This means that you might see art which interests you - and that, if you submit your own there, others will see your art too. This means you might get more favorites/watchers/comments, and it's a way to get your artworks seen by more people.
