Great and expressive render. Reminds me of some lyrics I wrote a long, long time ago:

"...For when you destroy a man's dreams, you destroy his reason too.."

Keep up the great work

It was a song I wrote in 1976 about a guy who goes crazy and kills his unfaithful girl friend:

Chorus
Goodbye to Childhood
and the dreams of yesterday
and goodbye to the dreamer
who got lost along the way
and goodbye to you my dear
I know you won't shed a single tear
but that's to be expected
from a dream that disappeared

Now the house is burnin'
see the ashes fly
standin' out in the street
watchin' all the memories die
And the Neighbors all stand gawkin'
watchin' the fire burn itself out
as for me I knew the ending
there was never a doubt

A Policeman walked up to me
Says, "Hold it right there."
"Turn around put your hands behind you
You know the trial will be fair
They called it murder
a killin' in the first degree
but the horror's gone and I am free

[Chorus]

They say I am crazy
and they locked me behind these walls
and sometimes i can hear them
when they walk down the halls
maybe they know the reason
why I did what i had to do
for when you destroy a man's dreams
you destroy his reason too

So Goodbye to Childhood
and the dreams of yesterday
and goodbye to the dreamer
who got lost along the way
and goodbye to you my dear
I know you won't shed a single tear
but that's to be expected
from a dream that disappeared

you disappeared...

[Chorus]

Singer-songwriter-composer. Composed and did sound design for small theater in L.A. Never made any serious money at it but had some good times.

Later I got into hanging with the writers in the USENET group alt.cyberpunk.chatsubo... and wrote / mixed / composed some techno and audio scapes and re-envisioned some of the stuff from the '70s.

Here's the landing page with some of the odd-strange-good stuff I've put together...

some of the music links in the site mp3 player are broken and I haven't fixed them...

Many of the lyrics are here: [link] but not all of them...

Feel free to wander the pages... sometimes words can evoke pictures... and that can be a good thing

Cheers and keep up the good work (I like your Rendo stuff too)

Thank you very much.

I trained in music technology at college but found it impossible to find work so I haven't bothered trying recently.. I keep meaning to write more music but never have the time. :( I have some old tunes on Myspace [link] if you're interested.

Your tracks sound cool.. I will have to check them out tommorrow while I am working :D

The thing about the mass media industry is either you need connections from the start. David Paich, one of the founders of Toto, was in my High School graduating class was doing gigs for Boz Scaggs, Sonny and Cher, The Allman Bros. and others before he graduated (Last I heard he has something like 12 Grammys) -- but his dad was the leader of the "Glen Campbell Orchestra" at that time so he had an in to the industry... or you have to have something that makes them want to come to you... sometimes one break is all you need... I never got any breaks...

I never tried to "sell" myself... I guess I've always taken myself and what I do too seriously. I've focused more on delivering what I thought was the "best" in phrase / timing / tune / metaphor to tell a story... rather than what others thought they wanted to hear... then again in many ways I can see how lazy I have become... I've fallen to writing maybe a song a year which is awful considering the investment I still have in guitars and music software...

Your track "CokeCanBeatz" reminds me of a mix thing I did called "biscuit tin" that started with an audio sample of a metal cookie box... I tossed the sample into Sony Acid Pro and blended it with loops and live samples from my old beat up Yamaha DX21.

the tag line I used was: "dvusMedia - o/~ Music to Make you Think o/~"

I think you're right. I had a couple of friends who made it more succesfully than me..(not massivley, but better than me LOL)

I did the same as you as well and stuck to what I thought was technically "good".

The coke can track was a project I did in college I keep meaning to remix it into something a bit more "listenable" LOL

Very cool. Reminds me of those images you see on the front of computer hardware and software packages to say something like, see what this baby can do! The skin tones and wrinkles look so life-like.
RetroDevil's avatar
hehe, I know what you mean... They usually use Poser for those things too.. I have always wanted them to use one of my products, That would be cool!

Thanks for your comment

Cool indeed - a good ego boost and a bit of cash too!

Wow ... if looks could kill, the person who is the recipient would be dead 100 times over... Good work. How did you get the wrinkle/farrows around the eyes and forehead?
RetroDevil's avatar
Thank you very much.

The wrinkles are created using a greyscale displacement map.
