Helloooooooo! Long time no see, you guys! Major thanks to those who remain my watchers and those who still support my art after that long break. You guys are awesome! I apologize for being gone, my life's been really busy lately, which is a good thing because it keeps me on my toes, but not so good because well.. I haven't posted in months!
Anyway, this is the first pastel piece I've ever done when my best friend was over at my house, I immediately connected to the medium and had a lot of fun, so expect some more pastel art!!
This piece started off as me not really knowing what to do and messily blending with my bare fingers (Not recommended, ouch! Use coconut oil instead guys!!
) I couldn't get the sky to look smooth, so I just started messing around with textures and started blending is circles, like clouds.
I kinda zoned out and had fun talking with my friend and when I stopped to look back, I was kind of shocked?? Like the clouds turned out way better than I actually ever thought, considering it was mostly an accident and not intentional! XD
I then started blending the colors together, basically using all the purples and pinks in the box to try and create a realistic, somewhat smooth gradient of color - again, turned out better than I thought. I feel like the key to blending is using as many little "In-Between" colors as you can to make it look more seamless and less flawed and boxy.
For the ground, everything in black is black pastel, which is pretty daring of past-me because I didn't know how badly they smear! Luckily, nothing disastrous happened and the art piece was ok.
I decided to just chuck in some mountains in the background and a city too, and at this point I was just having fun with it!
If you can see the little easter-egg cabin on the mountains, my Best friend drew that - we always hide easter eggs in each others art when we draw together! It's kind of a funny and weird tradition, I guess.
I'm so, so proud of this piece especially considering this was my first time using pastels. I hope you guys like it, feel free to comment your favorite parts, any constructive criticism (Nothing rude please! I like to keep my page a happy place
) and anything you'd like me to try! (Reference pictures, landscapes, biomes, etc)
I hope you all have a great day! <3
