I decided to draw Valerian/Madroño in his modern outfit. I like much more his hair in this design If you swipe you can see his Garden design, as well as him without a moustache ... and yeah ... he looks weird without it

And although I only have 19 out of 24 created, I'll be drawing their modern uniform portraits immediately after their official Garden outfits.

To be honest I lost touch with some of ToNE's characters O_O; My paranoia made me worried about them being 100% original (no, I don't mean ocs being compared to existing ones, I actually don't mind that. I mean like,,, crazy shit- I had a conversation with my dad about Willow and started to worry that he invented her backstory, or I made some of my OCs in Dynasty Warriors and worried they weren't my designs anymore). OCD is actually a serious, debilitating mental illness; it's much more than just "being a clean freak" (I should know, I'm very messy >w<; ), and it has many types. Slowly I'm trying to overcome it bc New Eden is my love and joy

Anyway-

I think Valerian/Madroño (hey I just realised I can call him Val- hahaha XD)'s style is classy ... ish, but also a bit weird? He is a weird guy who wants to be suave and charming but sometimes can be a bit funny and over-the-top instead~
There are definitely a few mistakes here and there, like his ridiculously long fingers (the short gloves make that even more prominent oops-), and as per usual, the bg looks tilted (at least those art nouveau bgs are fun XD) ... but overall, I think I'm happy with it, and with my improvement from the first picture.

Also I just wanted to say, my favourite kinds of comments are when people like my OCs, or their designs/my writing about them. Those truly make my heart explode 0m0

I received some of these comments on this ToNE portrait series on instagram recently, and honestly- thank you guys so much for your support- I couldn't have made it this far without your awesomeness

Personality:

In demeanor, this young man will appear bold, extroverted and naturally curious, albeit a bit clumsy, naive and with a noticeable tendency to act before thinking. Due to this, he is somewhat unpredictable as he often acting on a whim. Very flirtatious and a bit of a show-off, and does not care much for one's privacy; he is very nosy and is often caught eavesdropping. Despite this, Madroño is a stickler for honesty, hating liars passionately, and considering them dangerous to society. He is very protective of friends and ideas, not permitting any wrong against them. Very stubborn, he always seems on a mission, seeking out hidden wrongs and injustices, and this dogged nature can sometimes push others away, leading him into difficult situations; however, he is actually relatively relaxed when it comes to friendships and hates to burn bridges/lose someone's trust. Another facet of Madroño's personality which causes him trouble is that he must feel in some small way as if he is in control of his situation (not necessarily that of others, however); if he is not, he will become paranoid. Very prone to paranoia and confusion, though most of the time he can keep it under the surface. Can sometimes be gruff or mean when confused or impatient; he had many older, abusive brothers, and has learned to sometimes take his anger out on others. Afterwards he is very apologetic, because he finds it against his honour to act out. Genuinely cares about others, but doesn't really understand their feelings. An adventure seeker.

History:

Relationships: As in life, he maintains a strained friendship with Cantua, though he is often jealous of him and doesn't understand much of what he does or says.
He has a very obvious crush on Cactus and often flirts at her, though she dislikes him.
Good friends with Basil.
Doesn't get along with Willow or Beojkkoch, though he finds Be to be more tolerable.
Terrified of, and quite hates Romashka.
Maintains casual friendships with Suzie, Amaryllis, Orchid, Chili and Tsubaki.

Fun Facts: -He has remembered the nickname, and often refers to himself as "Rogue Dog", still proud that he betrayed such a vulgar group as his particular expedition.
-He has somewhat wider hips than the average male, which earned him some ridicule from his brothers, among others. This bothers him especially. Don't ever mention it to him.
-He is actually rather short. (don't mention his height to him either)
-He is decent at singing, and can also play the Spanish guitar . . . decently, though his talent with music is singing. (Cantua is still better)
-Despite the fact that he trained with swords, he was never really that great at swordfighting. Somehow despite that, he taught Cantua well, who managed to kill his brother Juan. ~~I guess Cantua is just a fast learner.~~ ~~Madroño is kind of jealous of that.~~

-He also despises the fact that he is 6 inches shorter than Taquiri, and tries to wear tall hats whenever they're around each other.

Confusing details: As I said before, there isn't much that is confusing imo, but a couple of pretty important things to keep in mind when drawing him:
-Madroño's skeleton is literally wood, or a combination of wood and bone, and the branches are growing from roughly around his shoulders. However, though they are important to his design, they are not necessary to be in every drawing; because they are huge and cause him to be a bit of a klutz, he often trims them down to stubs and then conceals them beneath his clothing (of course this would be very painful.)
-His skintone is a midtone tan. If you are drawing him for some reason, please don't make him too pale, or too dark. He's European, but loves to go out in the sun.

I think that's it? Thank you so much for coming ... ugh ... I need to fix his story which means I'll probably have to draw him again, and then ofc if I edit his story, I have to edit Taquiri/Cantua's story as well T_T So ... be ready to have to see them more ... X'D
