Cadence and Shining Armor

Faith in your spouse is a crucial element in a lasting, loving relationship. But when the doom of an entire kingdom rests on a single death defying act of ultimate heroism, having lots of practice definitely helps too. With their display of top form and precision I can only guess Princess Cadence and Shining Armor must have belonged to a cheerleading team in their younger days. Either that or they participate in possibly the strangest version of Caber Toss.
Both figures and stand are carved out of Philippine mahogany while the gears and Cadence's tiara are made of narra hardwood. They're hand painted in enamel and with a protective flat lacquer top coat. The pair stand at 10" from Shining Armor's hoof to the tip of Cadence's horn while the entire piece measures 13" high, 7 1/2" long and 3 1/2" wide. It took 148 1/2 hours to complete.

Omg so cool!! I love it!!!
May i please ask a question? I like to make figures too, But i can't seem to make the paint look nice.
What paints do you use and how do you make it look nice
like on the figure here?

I use brushed on Tamiya enamel. Ideally using an airbrush would be better, but you can effectively hide brush strokes by thinning the paint and applying multiple layers. All colored wooden parts are first sanded smooth to 800-1000 grit then have the pores closed with 2-3 coats of sanding sealer (sanded between coats). Then 2 coats primer (spray), 2 coats brushed on enamel, 2-3 coats clear flat acrylic (spray). Any metallic paint (gold in this case) comes last as spraying even clear gloss on it will kill its shine.

Its wife tossing time!

Honestly, my headcanon for the "wife-throwing" thing was that it grew out of a dare regarding Shining's strength and then "Aunt Celly" (aka :icontrollestiaplz:) encouraged Cadance to make it a "running gag" of their courtship. Mostly it was done for the laughs, but it also ended up being a backhanded example of how much Celestia and Cadance trusted him (after all, the two of them wouldn't tolerate just any ol' stallion doing this kind of thing).

awww dang , i was hopping they would at least go through the throwing motion.....

I deemed it too weird as that would entail having her fly in reverse at the end of the cycle.
iamli3's avatar
she didn't even need to fl , just have shining extend her forwards , instead of them just gittering around....

But he does extend her forwards. Once in about every 10-12 shorter ones.

not really , she never barely goes past his head.....

If she went past his head she would be flying/floating taking us back to the original problem: she'll have to go back in reverse which looks silly. When you're throwing a paper airplane or playing darts you don't let the plane/dart go too far in full swing during practice strokes, do you?

maybe i do lol.....

This makes me wonder if Hasbro would've made an action figure of this if MLP was geared toward boys. "The Shining Armor Princess Tosser with Wife Throwing Action!"
