Coming into the Companion's midst when they needed it most, The Yale had long been a passive observer of the goings on within The Kingdom. From the relative safety of the deep woods, it plyed its time by grow great Yew trees the likes of which have not been seen before that time or since. Sharing a symbiotic relationship with the forest, it shared many traits with the plants it kept company, allowing it's horns to move independently and to turn it's head into a natural ballista by growing vast sinewy tendrils and lashing them together between it's horns. Firing arrows grown from it's own pelt with deft manipulation of its tail. Unlike Oakenrack, The Yale was still very much an being of flesh and blood and valued all residents of its forest. Always believing that with time came purpose, The Yale had an unshakeable Faith to see the long term play out. Thus when The Yale finally answered the call, it was without hesitation or fear. After quelling the Boar-Fish, The Yale would grow Yew trees wherever he could, to provide for the Kingdom and give unto it what the woods had given to him. Many confused the tending and growing nature of The Yale for generosity and The Wyvern for faith in the surety of his cause. Rather it was the opposite as The Yale pursued his purpose with a single minded determination and believed that in the end his efforts would make all the difference. Regardless of others, The Yale continued this roaming and tree planting like a mantra. So it was that when the demon of blood slew The Bear, it was accepted without pause. When The Unicorn asked for aid to restrain the demon, The Yale accepted without pause. When the demon of blood slew The Unicorn...it was troubling but surely this all had a purpose? Finally the demon came for him and as he lay dying The Yale paused...and accepted that his death had come. For surely it would all have purpose in the end. The Yale's descendents are divided. As his mortal offspring believe that someday the ultimate truth shall be revealed and The Kingdom will come again, the catoblepas meanwhile doubt. They doubt and in their doubt they despair for if something could have been done they why hadn't it? Why hadn't their ancestor acted sooner? The Yales say 'believe', the catoblepas wail 'why'. So the divide linger, festers and ultimately continues. For none can say if the Yale's belief in his own purpose was correct or not. Not even The Yale himself.
He had some rather uhm, interesting views on the world, that's for sure. Anyways for a lore only character, he has quite the interesting design, quite like how it all came together.
He's something of an allegory, we'll leave it at that lol. But yeah, his design took a direction that most wouldn't do. A ranged weapon herbivore.
I'm not sure how I feel about my deliberately kaijufied take on the Yale being used as a reference for the actual thing in mythology. But I'm flattered.
So the catoblepas are a distinct entity here. Interesting...
In this case, Yales and Catoblepas both descended from 'The Yale' as their original ancestor.
Wait a minute... I could be wrong here, but is the way he attacks based on Irvine?
Dawnaria Origins Pt. 1
Researchers Note: The artifact is a large stain glass mural over ten feet tall. Evidence that it was mounted into an actual window frame at one time are centuries old. Currently it is unmounted, likely due to it being made portable for transport before being hidden away. The artifact was found in a small catacomb beneath the Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris France. Paris's own clergy and experts at first mistook it for a some sort of art project or prank until tests showed its advanced age. At which point I was asked to inspect the item due to my growing expertise with this particular subject matter depicted in said mural. The mural depicts the overall image of some sort of Griffin or fire bird curling in on itself. Around a central point each section being akin to a flame as well as parts of the Griffin's body. This creates a double image of both a burning Griffin and a sun. Some sort of solar deity perhaps? Within each 'flame' running from the bot
