Irene is a name of a city in the distance, and if you approach, it changes.A piece based off of Italo Calvino's Invisible Cities, for a group show that I'm helping to organize, with a bunch of super cool MICA Illustration students!
i interpreted Irene as a city based on the inhabitants of different cities speculating on it, by seeing smoke rise from the valley below and turning into the imagined city above their heads. Looking at a lot of cliffside/cave cities for reference~
The full passage that this was based off of is on my tumblr, here.
If i were to publish a fairytale book, i would actually want to hire you for the illustrations. This is very beautiful.
