Emea Twinmarker portrait
A brush pen drawing of the protector goddess Emea from Spun Off, inked with a Pentel brush pen I found in the closet, and colored with Twinmarkers. Twinmarkers are super-cheap Copic marker knockoffs that can be found in the Action stores if those exist in your area. They're inferior to Copics in almost every way, but because a box of 15 costs as much as a single Copic marker, they're still worth it if you're figuring out coloring with alcohol-based markers, or if you need markers for a class or an adult teaching activity (this is true of a lot of art goodies from the Action - a painting class organized by my day job was supplied entirely with ultra-cheap canvases and acrylics from there).

Scanned on a 1990s-model Epson GT-10000 scanner and color-corrected in Affinity Photo on iPad to closely resemble the original - color scans on my scanner are coming out a bit pale and underexposed lately.

Spun Off Page 85 now on Patreon
The latest page of Spun Off is now available for Patrons on my Patreon: www.patreon.com/posts/spun-off… and on my blog: reinderdijkhuis.com/wordpress/…
It will be posted on the Spun Off website for non-Patrons to read on Thursday.

This page was done end-to-end on iPad, the second Spun Off page to be created that way. I used Autodesk Sketchbook for drawing and Affinity Designer for lettering and word balloons. Thanks to the experiments I did in November, it was a problem-free process, a little slower still than doing the lettering and ballooning in Photoshop on the desktop but without any real "how do I do this?" moments cropping up. I'm going on vacation abroad next week and want to travel light, so if I can leave the laptop at home, that would be great.

Finbar Rose Hork
I spent far too much time today coloring simple drawings with Copic and Twinmarker markers (mostly Copic but the Twinmarkers, which are cheap faux-Copics, come in handy often enough for me to put up with their faults. In the process, I learned a few things about blending different marker colors, fixing errors with the colorless blender, and, at the end of the process, using Affinity Photo to compensate for scans that came out too pale. With the paper originals as a reference, I could restore the original colors without any problems, and then fix blemishes with the inpainting tool and the regular brushes. For touching up traditional art, it's better than Sketchbook and probably as good as Photoshop.

Here, I added a little more detailing and went further with the blending. The brickwork is a Cool Grey (CG4) overpainted with Cadmium Orange (YR07) creating a red/brown brick color. There are little bits of blending in Finbar's face as well. The eyes were redone in Affinity Photo because I caused a massive blob over the left eye during inking

As for the subject: It's Finbar from Spun Off but in a blue and white pajama top that says "Rose Hork" in pink lettering. This came out of the Nude Toon Creation drawing challenge where we had to draw our characters in pajamas. I ended up doing a few variations with different characters and re-used the concept for my Copic practice.

I attempted again to make the coloring as flat as possible, with better success overall than last time. However, I ran into some trouble on the right side of the drawing, presumably because oils from my hand interfered with the ink from the marker and prevented it from staying on the paper. I don't know. I do think that I might be better off creating more detailed inks that don't require large areas of one color. I'll try that some time in the next few weeks.

Anyway, here's Krakatoa in her blue dress from Feral.

Interests
A new Chronicles of the Witch Queen story, Castle of the Gods, started on Wednesday at the slightly more relaxed schedule of three per week. Read it, starting at this page: Start of Castle of the Gods

My involvement in new Chronicles of the Witch Queen is minimal. I'm pretty much only the webmaster for this webcomic at this point, but I love it for how surreal it's gotten. This one is also going to be a trip.

"Browse today's Favorites" from the DeviantArt home page. I'd give the URL for the page but I don't think it stays the same between sessions.

You're welcome. Strangely, I can't find it on my list now, presumably because my web browser (Opera) crashed while on the "You have just made this a favorite" page, and it submitted the form again when I did the crash recovery thing. I'll have to fave again.

Seeing it on the front page made me happy. It's just a cat photo... but it happens to be a very good, striking one. Thanks for posting it.
