::Other Cinderella's Dreams:: by NaIniE ::Other Cinderella's Dreams:: :iconnainie:NaIniE 228 135

:pointr:How long have you been on DeviantArt?

Since 3rd March 2001, 14 years and then some.

:pointr:What does your username mean?

Let's say it's connected to angelology. That's enough for you to know. ;)

:pointr:Describe yourself in three words.

Eccentric Wandering Photographer.

:pointr:Are you left or right handed?

South–paw! That is: left handed.

:pointr:What was your first deviation?

Here: Travellers-Spheroids by rehael — made in POV-Ray and Gimp. Oooold times…

:pointr:What is your favourite type of art to create?

Photography, obviously.

:pointr:If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?

Traditional drawing and paiting. The old masters knew how to captivate attention.

:pointr:What was your first favourite?

The Perfumed Garden by burning-giraffe

:pointr:What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?

I think it's photography, and a close second place is for digital deviations.

:pointr:Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?

Frankly, I have no idea. I think I don't have one all–time favourite artist. It'd be… limiting?

:pointr:If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?

Everyone from my devWATCH of course! :D

:pointr:How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?

The whole community is impacting me, by constantly inspiring me, tutoring, evoking emotions…

:pointr:What are your preferred tools to create art?

Any photosensitive element with a nice optically perfect piece of glass in front of it.

:pointr:What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?

Place doesn't matter — it's who I'm with what matters. And she is all that matters for me. :love:

:pointr:What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?

Seriously, I can't limit it to one memory! But ok, you want one memory? Here is it: joining DeviantART, long time ago, when it was all about skinning applications, the community was small, but growing quickly.

Ok, one more memory — you're in my mind every time I create something, because a big part of what I do, and how I do it came from this community, from othr deviants, from comments, from looking at other deviations… Stay devious, friends!

I'd like to design techno type interfaces. I'd like to be a professional someday. Thank you for the tips.

Why would you limit yourself to only one kind of interface design style?… If you want to be a professional, well, pen+paper, long hours of trying various ideas, and… take some hints from this article — That Turtleneck is Choking You. And — good luck! :)

I am new to Gimp. And I saw that you're into interface designing. That's what I want to learn in Gimp interface designing like techno type of interfaces. Can you please give me some tips and tricks and advise? I have Gimp 2.8.10. Thank you.

Hi. To fully answer you, I think I should first ask some questions. What kind of interfaces would you like to design? What for?

Because, you know, GIMP or any other tool is last in the process. When I start with design, I spend hours with pen, pencil and paper. When I have general idea for the kind of workflow or other kind of interaction I should model with the interface design, I go to Inkscape and draft a sketch — I love using Inkscape for that. Align options, non-destructive scaling of vector design, guides, gradients, morphological operations (cutting, joining, etc). GIMP, if at all, is used only for adding some bells and whistles into that.

But, if you want some specific tips for GIMP at the start, here's a short list:
• keep number of layers short;
• don't get crazy with filters — usually a bit of Gaussian blur is everything I need;
• learn layer blending modes, just play with them and observe;
• if something doesn't work — get back to pencil and paper, it will save you time in the end;
• learn by duplicating other's designs from scratch, reverse engineer the interfaces you like.

I think that's all for today. ;) :ahoy:
