Abyssilisk - Perfected Zaghast
Colonel Cray: The Abyssilisk is like the root of the Zaghast ugly tree. Gnarled, twisted and better off never seen. With its powerful snake-like body, the Abyssilisk slithers quickly toward its enemy, spitting corrosive venom in rapid, precise darts, all for the goal of closing with its prey. Once in melee combat the Abyssilisk will violently slash with its heavy claws and piercing tail spike. With its thick skin, large body mass and the ability to engage multiple enemies at once, the Abyssilisk is among the most horrific of the Zaghast we face. One way to minimize the Abyssilisk's fierce attacks is to soften it up with mines and grenades in ambushes, remaining in cover, then picking at it from range if possible. After it has been wounded and slowed down, move in for the kill with suppressive fire and Chain Blades. This takes a high amount of practiced coordination within a Ranger Squad as engaging any Perfected Zaghast is often a suicide mission waiting to happen.
This is for my 32mm miniature board game Hell Rangers. All 2d/3d work done by myself.
Humanity has colonized the depths of Mars in order to harvest minerals, expand their presence on Mars and ship much needed resources back to earth. Humanity has managed to terraform Mars, making it habitable without needing special suits to traverse Mars' atmosphere. As a result Mars transforms from a harsh cold climate to a humid greenhouse climate. This stirs up and ancient alien/mutant race which in turn becomes very active, seeking to kill and infect/mutate millions of colonists. The colonies stand up a paramilitary force known as Ranger command. The Rangers constantly take the fight to the Zagahst, keeping the colonists safe and keeping Mars from being overun.
The game has a Quake 1/Doom vibe, fighting demons on a post apocalyptic earth. Sculpted in Sculptris and 3d Coat. Painted and rendered in 3d Coat. Background and additional effects Photoshop.
