Vitia and Artemis were silent long enough for a half dozen more trees to be set on fire, which didn't even take that long. They just sat on the heels of their feet, trying to brainstorm ideas. The girls were so wrapped up in their thoughts, neither of them noticed when Lo stormed off into the burning forest at top speed- by herself.
"What do you think, Lo?" Vitia asked. "Lo?"
Artemis looked up and tucked a strand of hair behind her ear. "She's gone!" the girl yelled, causing Jade to whimper in pain. "Oops, sorry Jade.. But where the heck did that girl go? Marching off to the forest by herself like that, it's not a good idea, especially with this fire."
Vitia rolled her eyes and went back to taking Jade's pulse for the fifth time. "Well, that's obviously where she went, you know."
Artemis was about to lose it. "I know that! But she must be crazy! The forest is dangerous, it is a border between the magic schools. Going in there is suicide, I need to go after her."
The blue-haired girl stood up and transformed, saying, "Artemis Magic Transformation!" She transformed with a bright flash and flew into the forest after Lo, leaving Vitia to look after Jade by herself.
"unbelievable," Vitia muttered. "I never asked for this."
As Artemis was flying through the burning forest after Lo, the fairy in question had arrived at the forest's heart a few moments before. It had been tough getting there, the smoke caused by the forest fire had made it difficult to breathe and she had coughed quite a few times on her way as a result. But it was nothing a few well-placed water spells could fix for her, and she was at the point of origin of the fire soon enough. It was protected by a barely visible dark shield, one that was startlingly similar to the ones generated by the Whisperians.
"It is too strong for you," a voice said from around her. It was all around her, like an echo. Lo couldn't possibly pinpoint it.
"What do you mean, it is too strong for me, you evil witch?!" Lo said.
The invisible witch clicked her tounge. "You cannot break through that dark shield by yourself, I made sure of that. Young fairies are so prideful, they think all of the obstacles they face, the challenges.. Tsk tsk. I show them."
The hand of fire came roaring out from the dark shield. It soared towards Lo at top speed, with the intent on burning the fairy's shimmering wings. But another fairy came soaring from the trees just as Lo raised her shield, yelling, "Water Wave!"
For a split second, it was as if time froze. Artemis landed next to Lo and added her own shield spell to the one Lo had put up. The hand of fire pressed against both of their magic shields, and steamed. It didn't seem to be affected, but the fire went out on some of the trees and Jade's pained expression relaxed just slightly.
"Looks like I got here just in time," Artemis said, breathing hard. "And you really need to stop doing reckless stuff like this, you are so going to get yourself killed."
Lo didn't react. "If you want to help me, help me put out this fire. Jade is going to die if we don't, and I can't have that on my conscience. I just can't." A tiny tear went down the fairy's cheek and the girls looked at each other for a split second, they came up with an idea in that moment. They dropped their shields and held hands.
As Lo sent her magic bolt soaring at the shield, Artemis made her magic bow appear and sent a water arrow soaring towards it as well. Both their attacks hit the shield with a loud hissing noise, and it burst in a shower of dark crystals. The crystal shards hit the ground and lay there. And so did Artemis.
A split second after their attacks connected with the shield, Artemis let go of Jade's hand. She fell to the ground with a loud 'THUMP' and reverted back to her normal form (as seen here: [CM]|WC|season 1|''First wings''| ) the hat fell off her head and landed on the ground besides her.
Lo sighed. She made a water wave and put out the fire. Then, without another word, she piakced up Artemis and met Vitia by the forest entrance. Together, they got Jade and Artemis to the Nurse's office and then headed back to their separate rooms to wait silently.
A few days later, Vitia walked to the Nurse's office by herself. She just needed to take a walk to see Jade, by herself. Without Lo walking next to her. That girl was even creepier than she was.. but Vitia couldn't blame her.
Awesome chapter again! The fact that Lo run to help her friend even if risking her own life, talks a lot for her nice character. I hope she, Jade and Artemis will be fine. Also I like that you made Vitia accidentally having to look after Jade - these two really need to get along better.
