Kimo - Breath of Flame by Rebecca1208 Kimo - Breath of Flame by Rebecca1208
Gawd dayamn this took a while to finish. I started this in February I believe and have just been drawing on-and-off again.
Tried a lot of new techniques with this, particularly the fire and scales, hence the messiness in some places.

I got a question. Did you draw and shade every single individual scale? or is there a way around it?

Yes, I did draw every scale. Although you can see as I reach further from the face, how each scale gets lazier. It wasn't a very good attempt :giggle:

Really!? Thats pretty cool I could never really draw anything that scaly because I'm too lazy, I just gave up in the middle.

This is insane XD I love the detail on every single scale, and the shading on the claws and horns. Those eyes, too. You are very good at eyes. Happy birthday too, btw!

As I had said earlier, this piece truly boggles the mind and I certainly wasn't expecting such a curve away from the usual animesque style you employ with your dragons. It was a surprise, and a pleasant one at that.

As I mentioned before, he is a good deal more sinister than in his other appearances. My gripe is that he doesn't seem to have his infamous scar, nor does he have heterochromia like you portray him with most of the time. Was that a deliberate change or just something you left out?

His left eye should be looking a little more forward; he's a bit derp-eyed in this picture, but eyes are a tricky business. It might just be me, but I do believe that eye is off a little.

The scales and carapace are magnificent. The details are truly amazing! Probably the best part of this picture, actually, sans the excellent pose.

I envy your mastery of flame effects. That's a spectacular thing you have going on with colours and texture. Something I might want to steal learn at a later date :P

Thank you very much :3

As you can see I'm always trying to push myself away from the animesque styles, you can show so much in a variety of ways ^^

I love that you've noticed those changes :D So yes, this drawing IS based on a time where he does has those features. He looks too old to me for it to be before his turns, although I could probably claim otherwise and it would be believed :giggle: the heterochromia has been left out as the eye which is clearer to see, I did try to make it blue without changing the shape, but every attempt turned into a very goofy nightmare. And personally I thought the angle of his face was too sharp to include his scar, although I could have tried more.

You could be absolutely right on the eyes. In fact the entire picture was derp when I mirror'd it and realized how skewed things were. I really need my own personal team of critics for when my eyes fool me :giggle:

Thank you :3 I am very glad you feel this way with the scales and fire, as these were the heavier parts of my experimenting. And bless you, you're always welcome to learn my techniques ;)
