Damn. I NOW realize where the name comes from. For some reason I always believed it has something to do with the Bulgarian name.... I love those birds.

Beautiful shot. Love the colours and clarity. Such a gorgeous bird with that yellow tail tip and red markings on its wings.

Beautiful! I really want to get into bird photography, but with the money it costs to purchase a good telephoto lens, I can't afford it.

Depends on what part of the US you live in.. around here they show up on their migration around January-March in Georgia. They love the berries that are on some of the Holly Trees and red tip photinia. They also really love my waterfall/stream for my pond.

I live in northeastern Pennsylvania. I have a few holly trees around my yard as well as a small mulberry tree and raspberry bush, but I've never been able to spot one. Is it true that they only travel in flocks or is it possible to just spot one or two?

North, and Central America. I usually only see them here in the winter in Georgia.

This is incredible! The feathers look so soft and I love the flow created by the composition and the bird's gaze :D

I think I've seen this somewhere before.
Isn't this the image that won the GBBC last year?
