Again, there is little known about Taiwan in terms of the Hetalia fandom, so real life references abound in this design. The country has seen some incredible economic growth, but political battles have made it difficult for a true identity to be defined. Japan seems to have done more to accelerate Taiwan's success than China, though. On a side note, I like how Hong Kong and Taiwan's designs together produce an excellent, unforeseen duality of color.

This is the fourth in the fourth series of Hetalia cards I'm designing. If you're curious, the rest of my collection will be updated above as new cards and series follow.

A CALL TO THE COMMUNITY

All images I use are gathered from public sites. These images are placed there without credit to the original sources, and I intend to give these artists their due.

Please help me to deter theft and increase artist knowledge through the following steps:

+ dA artists are both intelligent and resourceful. If you know the artist or the source for the image I use, please contact me through a comment, a note, etc. so that I can credit the work and contact the owner. This includes off-site sources especially.

+ To artists who find me before I find you: If you do not want me to use your artwork, please let me know and I will redesign the card in question with a different image.

I cannot thank you enough for your help, also to the artists whom I have found already~

I believe he was added recently. However, I don't create cards for nations until they are fleshed out in design well enough for me to work with them. We'll just have to wait and see~

Is there something I need to know here?

Taiwan's resistance to Japan is an allusion to the Japanese influence on the country during the 1930s. This includes implementing a sanitation system, revised education programs, agricultural production...though they did do a wonderful job of killing off the aboriginals. -sigh-

Either way, Japan seems to have overall done a bit more in cultivating Taiwan than China, so they get the resistance.

Well, I was wondering if China would be worked in there somewhere. Makes sense that's her weakness, poor Taiwan! She's just like Sealand, all she wants is acknowledgment.. except she deserves it, I dislike Sealand xD

Indeed. Between the whole giving up responsibility for Taiwanese natives attacking Japanese citizens and the whole Martial Law period, China did some serious damage. Not to say that Taiwan is not still heavily influenced by a lot of early Chinese traditions, but it seems they have a lot of self-discovery left to do as a nation.
