I hope everyone is well, happy and content. I'm typing this journal for a fairly important reason, because one of my friends is the exact opposite of that, and I wanted to appeal to the DeviantArt community for help. I've been a member of this community for 9 years (holy acorns batman), and I've seen the compassion that I know you guys have. So please, take the time to read what I have to say.
My friend Teri, has recently lost access to her daughter. She, and her ex-husband, shared custody of their 11 year old daughter, Nira, since they've separated 7 years ago. Recently, while Nira was staying with him in WA, Teri's ex-husband filed for full custody without warning. His case centres around an illness that Teri has, Myalgic Encephalomyelitis (formerly known as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome); his claim is that M.E makes her unfit to be a good parent to their daughter. Anybody who knows Teri, knows this is the most absurd statement; anytime I've ever spoken to Teri, she has only spoken of her daughter with joy, wonder, and absolute contentment and love. I know this is killing her, being away from Nira, and being unable to help. From the time of Nira's birth, to present, Teri has been fully involved in Nira's life; managing teachers and updates about her daughters education, to making sure she has everything she needs, and desires. At one point, Teri managed to get Nira outfitted for a death knight (WoW!) halloween costume. How outrageously awesome is that!? This is on top of managing her own health problems, specialist referrals, etc.
To make it clear, Teri doesn't want sole custody. She just wants to be a part of Nira's life, as any mother should be.
At this point, Teri and her family have been able to raise enough money to pay the retainer on an awesome lawyer for their case. But at this point, the fees have extended beyond the initial retainer, and their funds are quickly tapping out. This is where your help is required.
Below is the gofundme account set up to help fund Teri's fight. Please, please take a few minutes to have a look, or even if you can, share the link on Facebook, Twitter, whatever social media platforms you're a part of. Sharing is helping, no matter how small a thing it is. As a way to show appreciation, Teri's close friend David, and his fiancee have set up another fundraiser at his own website, that feeds into the gofundme. As a thank you, every doner who donates $15 or more will be drawn as a hero, a "careicature" of themselves.
If more money is raised that necessary, the rest of the money will go back into ME research, to help all those suffering from this debilitating disease.
Many thank yous in advance deviantArt!
