Gretel by Ravenari Gretel by Ravenari
Gretel

A portrait of Gretel from 'Hansel and Gretel,' showing her post fairytale, with the goose that helped them across the lake, the pearls she stole from the witch, the tear showing where she started and the flames showing where she finished.

Gretel is one of my favourite fairytale characters. She started out weak and tearful, and ended up strong and compassionate.

It's good to hear from you again! Still working at a certain record store? I hope all is going well, and that you are accruing the photography fame you so deserve. :)

Be more careful with your thumbs. One seems bigger than another.
Otherwise, well done!

thank you! While I disagree, because of perspective and the hand position, there are ways I could make it more obvious that they're the same size in future (such as not putting the pearls directly over the thumb's creaseline / rest of the thumb). :)

This is one of your stronger pieces yet, for sure. The underlighting really gives an otherworldly edge to it

Wow, thank you. I'm hoping to do more of these over time, I think it's a toss up between the 'Brother and Sister' Grimm's Fairytale, or 'Snow-White and Rose-Red' next.

The colouring turned out really nicely! I especially like the depth the shading brings to her skin, and the texture of the broom.

Thank you! The broom probably has the most layers of colour on it actually, to try and bring it out a bit more, so I'm glad that turned out. :)

I'm confused. Which version of the story did she get helped by a goose? (I fully realize that there is more then one version of almost every fairy tale.)

Ah it's a duck, goose is a typo, heh. But in the original Grimm telling, they are helped by a duck. The brothers added it themselves, and white ducks and geese are very common in many of their tales.
