GraVis 4.0 by rausy GraVis 4.0 by rausy
GraVis is a custom visualizer I built for when ones I have used didn't meet up to my expectations.

It was built off of a heavily-modified Monstercat Visualizer by MarcoPixel (), to be visually similar to Desktop VU-Meter by HiTBiT-PA (). I hope this isn't infringing on anything, and I will take this down if it does so; just don't forget that the Monstercat Visualizer is a music player, unlike this, while it takes absolutely no code from Desktop VU-Meter.

This is still incomplete, but in great working condition!

1.0 Features:
-Rainbow gradient colors
-Left and right channels
-65 spectrum bands per channel
-Editable spectrum bar width, gap, total skin's scale size (if you tinker enough, you can edit the height of the spectrum bars)

2.0 Features:
-Mirror (like what HiTBiT-PA's Desktop VU-Meter 1.2.1. FINAL RELEASE has) {non-mirror is removed, but can be added if wanted}
-Mirror'n'Flip (the same as above, but mirrored part is horizontally flipped)

3.0 Features:
-Mirror & Delay (ghostly delays, as shown in the preview image above)
-Configurable delay opacity (located inside skin, will later change to be in config file)
-Experimental Hi, Mid, and Lo range separate spectrum bar skins (Mirror only)

3.1 Features:
-renames of skins (Mirror & Delay --> Delay)
-lowered audio spectrum analyzing range from 20-20,000 to 50-15,000
-decreased decay of non-delay bars from 150 to 100
-decreased update time from 10 to 15
-works on all screens now, there was a weird positional bug on bigger or smaller screens
-removed experimental Hi, Mid, and Lo range spectrum bar skins
-removed Flip

4.0 Features:
-added metadata to the skins
-rename of skins (Delay --> Mirror Delay)
-added Plain and Delay skins
-fixed a typo in the code
-opacity of Mirror Delay and Delay can now be modified in the config
-changed default decay from 100 back to 150

Planned Features:
-Curve (spectrum bars curve outwards more the further it is away from center)

Help.
Hi. Your skin is the one I like the most! The only problem is that it's like in a transparent frame: I mean bars, especially blu lines, are cut off when the music is loud, they are not allowed to reach the maximum, they are like confined. Hope to express myself. I've tryed many different ways, also the ones  here described, but there's nothing to do. Plese would you mind help me?

In the skin's root folder there will be a file called "variables.ini" in the folder "resources".

..\Documents\Rainmeter\Skins\GraVis\resources

Inside the text file (open in notepad) you will find the line "BarWidth=9" where the value is the width in pixels of all of the bars; edit this however you like.

Ohh...it just had to be "on desktop" as a layer :D. Nice work tough!

Good to know you've fixed it, and I might've learned the difference between "on desktop" and "lowest"...maybe :v

When i minimize everything using my touch pad it sort of minimizes. The same happens with the "show desktop" button. Is there a way to fix it?

How would one increase the bar height? I cant seem to find where youd do that. I love the meter but it maxes out too easily.

You can make the bars taller, but that isn't what you're looking for. Instead, decrease the volume in your music playing application, and instead crank up your speaker's or system's volume.

I don't seem to be getting any problem with the current download, and [Meter_fake2] has no MeasureName, so I've no idea why that's a problem Owo

Have you tried redownloading it?

Great visualizer! Is there a way to get the bars to just move upwards (as opposed to mirrored, as both of your options are) and to move it all the way down to my taskbar? Also, your 1.0/fullscreen scale was a bit buggy (was a bit wider than my screen), but I played around with the scale and made it fit so that was taken care of.

Why thank you! :3

There used to be a skin that was half of mirror, but I never updated it and later removed it. I'll add it back as soon as possible. You can drag the skin down to your taskbar fairly easily, if there's something restricting you, try disabling the option of keeping this skin bound to the desktop borders.

Okay great! I disabled the option to keep the skin on the screen, and I was able to drag it down to my taskbar! Thanks again for the great skin, I'll be awaiting your update with an unmirrored visualizer.

Also, for some reason, the visualizer's sensitivity goes up whenever I mute my music (instead of returning to zero, most of the bars except for the very low frequency ones in the middle are maxed out). Any thoughts on how to fix this?

I've had a similar problem, except that the last high frequency bars every once in a blue moon would panic and be stuck at a maxed out state for me; reseting the skin was all it took to fix it for me.
I assume that for you it is merely oddities with drivers regarding audio and things like that. But to make sure it isn't could you try visualizers by other people and see if the problem persists?

I'm using your delay option, by the way. Love the idea of the ghost delay versus the old boring top line delay.

You can thank my incompetence in making the standard top line delay for that. ^_^;
But it really is a fresh breakaway from the boring standard most people use. [Plus it's spooky! Err, or not.]

Hey, just one question: how do you change the bar width to fit a larger monitor?  Thanks!  Love the skin!

Navigate to Documents/Rainmeter/Skins/GraVis/resources/variables.ini and open the file.

Find the variables named 'BarWidth' and modify it to your likings.

Great to hear you're enjoying this!

EDIT~ apparently adding '@' symbols makes in-site links at DeviantArt; the Resources folder is supposed to have an '@' symbol

Hi!
It's a really nice skin. I have one question. How can i bin it to the player's(foobar2000) output only?

Do i do that by modifying the plugin from AudioLevel to NowPlaying?
I haven't tried although I could..but I'd rather get some advice from experts. :)

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure about binding it to media players,; nor have I seen a Rainmeter skin do that yet.

As for changing the plugin, that wouldn't work as the AudioLevel plugin only returns the audio spectrum from the audio output. (with variables to modify the data given) The NowPlaying plugin only pertains to a media player's own API of sorts to give out data for applications that request it, and I don't think media players are capable of giving out the audio spectrum. (though media players can visualize the audio spectrum)

I can and try to do some research of my own on this topic; anyways, thank you!

I like how the cool colours are more in focus where the hot colours are at the side.

The cooler blue end is the bass spectrum of audio, which nearly every song has in greater degrees than the rest of their audio spectrum. The hotter red ends then represent the upper audio spectrums.

Hence the positioning of the colors and audio spectrums.
