Cat on scratchboard by Rathsi Cat on scratchboard by Rathsi
Cat portrait on Scratchboard.
I woke up on 10 degree mourning in Tuba City and this strange cat was on the roof of my vehicle trying to get the mourning sun to warm himself. I snapped a picture with my 35mm, processed it later and used it as the subject matter for my scratchboard assignment in one of my college classes. I couldn’t enter this in the student art show because the image was from a photograph. (even though I had taken the photo) WTP!

Scratchboard is really interesting compared to drawing, I've never really tried it, but your work lets me know that it scratch board can offer a lot to an artist.

I can't believe you can get such a glow with those hatching strokes. See this is the stuff I was constantly remind myself when I was younger and in your class . I was just like "if he can do that, I have to be able to do that"

I forget, you told me a story about this piece, like the cat was on your car's windshield and you felt compelled to capture it in your artwork?

I had to come up with a subject matter that would lend itself to hatching, cross hatching and stippling on scratchboard. This was my first attempt at this media.
