Description
Faebruary day 3
Brownie.
Household spirits are a common piece of folklore throughout the British isles and indeed across the world one finds various daemons, gods and spirits of the home.
The Brownie or Brunie was originally the name for a Scottish variant but the name has become synonyms with all house keeper fairies in general folklore. Brownies are typical Seelie, humble and helpful, they come out at night and do chores around your home/farm. If you do have a brownie in your house it is very important to keep him happy, usually he’s satisfied with a nice bowl of cream (fairies are sluts for cream) but if you upset your brownie he will leave your home forever, and very likely undo all his good work before leaving (wreck the place). Though Brownies are helpful creatures they do enjoy causing mischief as well because fairies cannot help their nature, don’t give the little fellow any excuse to resent you.
Most brownies are male (with a few notable exceptions) and are said to be frightful to look at, however in Northern England and on the Scottish Boarders there is another house spirit called a Silkie who appears as a maid dressed in silk, she is prettier, but no less mischievous, be warned.
