Hey there guys, I figured since 2018 is ending in a few days, it'd be nice to make one last journal for the year and give a small little update for what's been going on because I have definitely been rather inactive for awhile now in terms of uploading... Anything. lol Before I start though, Happy Holidays everyone, I hope that you all had a great Christmas and I hope you all have a fun New Year's celebration
So yeah 2018? Honestly the year was a bit of a mixed bag for me. There were some good things and some... Well, I wouldn't say "bad" but certainly challenging in terms for my creative output. But yeah, I'll just highlight the pros and cons of the years in bullet form haha.
PROS OF 2018
Made some small improvements with my art.
I won't lie, I kinda started slacking a bit when I started my new job in late September but despite that, I will say I have noticed small improvements in my art and I'm happy about that.
Got a job.
While the job started out a bit challenging as it was a 50 minute drive, a spot at a closer location ended up opening up and it's made things a lot easier in terms of my driving anxiety and plus, I'm actually able to write notes for my YouTube videos as well as draw/sketch on the job because the facility really isn't all that busy compared to the other location I was working at.
Soul Calibur 6 was released this year.
While I'm still working on my YouTube review for the game, I'm happy that the game finally came out and it proved to be interesting lol I'll share more in the review though.
Spyro Reignited Trilogy was released was released this year.
I haven't played the game yet as I'm focusing on Soul Calibur 6 right now but I've been hearing some good things about it (though have been avoiding reviews until I review it myself). I do look forward to playing it when I get around to eventually.
Super Smash Bros Ultimate was released this year.
Like Spyro, I haven't played it yet but I'm so looking forward to playing it when I do. It's amazing that it has EVERY. SINGLE. CHARACTER. who have appeared in a Smash game
Watched Castlevania on Netflix.
I know technically the show came out in 2017 but I ended up watching it this year and I've gotta say that it's probably one of the better video game adaptations I've ever seen. So looking forward to season 3 and I hope Alucard gets some closure, that ending totally pulled at my heart strings lol.
Working out has been going good.
I've been continuing with my workout regimen that I started in 2015 and I'm really liking the results it's done for my body. I started working out at the gym this year as well because it's part of the perks of my job and it's been pretty intriguing but the results are certainly nice.
Selling Adoptables was pretty successful this year.
2018 was the first year I did consistent Adoptables and I was very surprised and happy that people were into the designs I came up with. It's been great because it really does help with character designing practice.
CONS OF 2018
Less productive with Art towards the middle and end of the year.
While the beginning of the year was certainly positive as I was getting art done, things started to dip around September when I started my job. It's also why I missed out on doing a Christmas-themed pic this year because I was too tired and lazy to get one done.
Less productive with YouTube videos towards the end of the year.
Just like my art, I also dipped with my YouTube videos even more than I did with my art. For example, I originally intended to review Soul Calibur 6 followed directly by Spyro the Reignited Trilogy wihtin the weeks they were released and obviously, that just didn't happen. I work Monday-Friday (Friday being my longest shift) and it's really been trickky trying to find a way to get these videos done when I'm tired by the time I get off work. :/ I also was supposed to have a Halloween themed review and that didn't happen neither. Eugh... I'm just so disappointed with myself in this regard.
And really, that's all I can think of as far as cons go. There really weren't many but because Art & YouTube are big things in my life, that's why I feel like 2018 was such a letdown for me towards the end of the year. So now for some plans for 2019.
Plans for 2019
Be more productive with Art
I really want to draw more in 2019. I want to continue developing my Muscle style as well further fine-tuning my femboy designs. But I also want to do some fan art again because looking back at some of my fan art for the Ratchet & Clank series, Jak & Daxter, and Crash Bandicoot, I can't help but wince at it and I think it's long overdue for a touch-up LOL. Thankfully as I'm adjusting to my job and noticing that I can at the very least, draw sketches at work, this can help with art production so I'm sure it'll be a possibility to get back into the swing of things with my art again.
Be more productive with YouTube videos
This one is going to be more tricky because like I said previously, by the time I get off work, I'm too tired to do anything else with the exception of maybe finishing up drawings and since I work Monday-Friday with only 2 days off which tend to go by rather quickly, it just makes it very difficult to get into the swing of things. I'm thinking about changing my work schedule to where I work Monday-Thursday while having Friday-Sunday off as I think having one extra free day can help with production. I've talked with my co-worker and she says she wouldn't mind taking Friday for me so I might be able to do this though I'm waiting till after New Years just to double check with her to see if she still would want to. Either way, another positive with the job is that just like I can sketch things, I can also write notes for videos so this will definitely come in handy. I'm already listing out how I'm going to try to get these videos down for the year planning things ahead and whatnot so I guess we'll just see how it goes.
Work more with my characters Gunther & Prue
Holy crap did I seriously neglect these guys this year, it was awful... So I really need to get back into the swing of things developing their stories and whatnot because I haven't worked on them at all in 2018...
Possibly start livestreaming Video Games?
I'm thinking about starting some livestreams on YouTube with video games. I'm still debating on it because I'm not sure if anyone would want to tune into them but it's certainly on the drawing board.
Try to make some IRL friends/
It just gets lonely just being by myself these days and ever since my brother moved to be with his partner in mid-late 2017, my social life has been pretty non-existent since he was the only one I really talked with about things and while we do still talk every now and then, he's pretty busy with what's going on in his own life which is completely normal. It just would be nice to have someone to talk games and/or art with. It's just difficult to meet people where I live but I'm going to try to find a way.
And welp, that's all I've got for now lol If you read all this, thank you and I hope you all have a great Holidays and are looking forward to 2019, may it be a great year for all of us hopefully.
'Till then, I will catch you in 2019, later everyone!
