It's a really impressive picture. The idea of starting with monocrome, and then adding just a touch of color was good, and it worked out well, here.
Everything is excellently "drawn" (for the most part. I will get to my quibbles in a moment), and the shading is excellent, too. I especially love the ray of light illuminating both the skull and Elkveer's face. I also like his intense expression. He seems like somebody I would not want to cross, even without knowing that he is the gods of life (and death). I feel like this character is concentrating intently on making vines and flowers grow on the skull (but I could be wrong).
As for my quibbles, first, it is difficult to tell what is happening with his left arm. It appears as if his elbow is hanging right above his waist, but for that to be the case, either his writst would have to be broken, or double jointed. It is possinle that that isn't his elbow, but if it isn't, it is not clear what it is.
My second quibble is that that dimple on the same side as his elbow seems a bit to deep. I know he's twisting, and maybe it's just my ignorance of anatomy, but I am not sure if the muscles and skin do what they are doing there. It almost looks like his upper back is ramming into his tail bones. Again, though, this could just be my ignorance shining through.
My last quibble is that, either there isn't enough contrast between the ray of light, and the surroundings, or there isn't enough contrast in the surroundings, or the surroundings are too dark. This quality makes it somewhat difficult to judge what is happening in the background. For example, there appear to be ornate designes on the pillars, but it takes effort to make them out.
Anyway, really good work, otherwise. Thank you for sharing!
Right on! I actually had in mind he was making the flowers grow! ^^ I didn't push too hard to make that obvious but it's nice if it made you think that p:
And very good observations, I appreciate your nice critique <33
Hello. I'm from the thread. I love the color palette and composition. Despite the lack of action it feels like a very intense scene. I like the look in the character's eyes. I have a feeling he knows whose skull he's holding.
This looks amazing, especially since you say this was different from your regular stuff. I seriously love how that main ray of light guides the viewer down the person holding the skull and onto the skull. The skull itself has such a range in values and color. It really catches my eye upon first viewing. Just out of curiosity, does Elkveer have his own story? He definitely looks like he has a story waiting to be told.
Thanks so much! Yep I was doing a workflow I don't usually go for haha xD glad if it turned out ok!
As for the character, he's actually from my comic (https://www.webtoons.com/en/challenge/15th-reincarnation/list?title_no=287610)
though he's only been mentioned so far and hasn't properly shown up p:
The lighting does such an amazing job of emphasizing the expression on your god OC's piercing eyes as they study the mystery of life and death and how closely they entwined (pretty literally even, here) The setting of the ruin looks so apt for this encounter! Really well done!
