Graduated Blur Effect by rapidograph Graduated Blur Effect by rapidograph
... I've had some questions asked by a few friends on how to pull focus to a specific subject in a flat digital image... this effect, which I learned in a Photoshop seminar, does exactly that with just the right amount of subtlety... you see it used in lots of glamour advertisements or product solicitations where a depth-of-field blur is used to heighten the impact of an object, so that it feels like it's in the foreground even though in reality it isn't...

... this tutorial also demonstrates the power of using Channels, which many people stray away from because they don't understand them...

*thanks to `snowmask for the use of her photo...

Yah, that save selection tool has allowed my creative artisticness (it can be a word if I say so) to grow....without it some of my recent works would not have been possible. I never knew how or what channels would do...now I know. Thanks for this informative tutorial....I see other possiblities on how to use this newfound information:-)

Very well written tutorial. I have to admit I always wondered how to do this without distorting the main subject.

Thanks so much sharing, this will come in handy. :)
