Reflections of Epona: Rhiannon by RaNuit Reflections of Epona: Rhiannon by RaNuit
Close up of girl: [link]

The choice to create this aspect of the Celtic Goddess Epona was inspired by the pose of the Lady upon the horse.
`lockstock :iconlockstock: , has seemingly become a muse that speaks to my artistic side on more levels than I thought possible.
Thus, being a follower of Celtic beliefs and practices I could not resist the urge to capture her in this soft flowing look as Rhiannon ( another name for the Goddess Epona ) whose most prominent legend has her riding upon a white horse dressed in gold as one of the great kings seeks to make her his bride.

Model: The ever enchanting :iconlockstock:
Horse Model: my own, one I owned when I was younger
Epona was a protector of horses, donkeys, and mules. She was particularly a goddess of fertility. Suggested that the goddess and her horses were leaders of the soul in the after-life ride, with parallels in Rhiannon of the Mabinogion. Unusually for a Celtic deity, most of whom were associated with specific localities, the worship of Epona, "the sole Celtic divinity ultimately worshipped in Rome itself",[2] was widespread in the Roman Empire between the first and third centuries CE.

I like how you've alternated colours in terms of the background... The blue and white work together very well and it creates an almost different perspective to things too.

I think the detail is brilliant. It's really intense, especially the tree and the person. I like the shading and how you've drawn her dress too.

What I'm not fond of is how the horse's head merges with the tree, in a sense. I feel as if you could stress out the shadows a bit more and thus separate it a bit... at the moment, I feel as if it's joined together, in a way.

That's pretty much all, in terms of suggestions. 'Tis a lovely piece. ^^;

For someone that doesn't do this via the critique thingy you did rather well... thanks hun.. and as to the shading, yea I'm still trying to develop the light/shadow aspects when painting digitally lol

Nah... Perhaps it's just certain things that are quite universal...

Mm-hmm. You're doing a pretty good job already. :)

Despite her bright, cheerful environment, she looks so sad...it makes me wonder what the rest of the story is, and that is an indication of expressive art.

Well in truth she is sad, she's being hunted to be oppressed by a man she doesn't even like. It is the fate of us all at times to go through things that are similar to the story of Rhiannon. Her life, though she is seen as a goddess, was one filled with a lot of pain and torment.

Lovely. I love the pose seated in the saddle, and the horse is beautiful. Again (like your others) pretty gown. Very celtic in feeling and inspiration.
