Two speedpaintings based on the same ink brush thumbnail. I made two colour schemes, couldn't make up my mind, and just did both. This was also a training session to get to grips with a newly tweaked brush since my old way of working doesn't, well, work so well (harhar). Not sure I like the results; it seems a bit too digital right now.
Took about two hours.

The second painting looks really traditional/painterly in the more detailed upper part where the city is. It's the looser brushwork in the foreground that marks it as obviously digital. Those hard-edged brush strokes are a dead giveaway. That's not to say it looks bad. Just evidence of technique.

The tree shapes framing the first painting come off a lot less obviously digital, to my eye at least. I'm sure a more experienced painter could tell easily, but to me they look enough like real paint.

Either way, I like the paintings. They both have a nice sense of mood and atmosphere.

Thanks, it's a relief to hear it came out okay. I easily lose track when painting cities. I'm more the arkology kinda guy - one big shape, with windows. I was surprised that these two didn't take longer than my usual speedpaintings to get the point across. In any case I think I like it best when the medium doesn't matter so much and the idea comes to the fore, and always try to go for that.
