I tried a new sketching style, which didn't work out at all like I thought ;) This result is enjoyable though, with the children's book look - I used a 100% opacity round brush, and a makeshift tree brush from a triangle with jitter on everything.

The trees turned out great. I like the really strong shapes and the overall graphic look it gives. It has a storybook quality, but a very particular kind of storybook quality. I'm afraid I'm not sure how to phrase that less vaguely. Suffice to say you're on to something, even if I don't know what that something is called.

You might want to do some manual tweaking if you use the brush in the future, though. As it is, you have some trees that are levitating. I wonder if there's a way to designate the center point as the bottom-center of the triangle instead of the actual center. (I don't play around with brushes much; plain old circles usually suffice for my purposes.)

The look was a surprise, a nice one.
Yeah, I noticed the flying trees, but since it's just a sketch I didn't bother fixing them. It's mostly a result of overpainting them after I made the brush, had I layered the image properly this would not have happened but I paint on one layer and the fog was in the way ;)
I do love a nice brush that makes life easier, and the hard round often looks like felt marker. It's correct of course that the brushes don't make the art.
Thanks!

Love the squiggly bits and then the sharp pointy trees. Wonderful!

I do love the tree abstraction in maps - decidious trees as circles and coniferes as triangles. I did get nervous from using the high opacity, but I guess that means it's worth pursuing ;)

Thanks! I'm still trying to get the hang of the style I actually wanted to do ;)

There certainly is something to be said for simplicity.

It's a new style, I'm not sure how it'll settle in with my usual handwriting. But I like it enough to give it another try :)
Thanks!
