My Bio
My name is Donald Ramage and I have been an illustrator since 1989. I have designed artwork for fire departments, law enforcement and medical air units. I absolutely love doing pen and ink drawings of birds of prey, owls, eagles, hawks and falcons; I just can't get enough! I also love drawing other animals. I started working with wood about 2005, after looking at dozens and dozens of patterns online I realized I could design my own, the hard part is drawing the pattern to fit. All of the pieces are one-of-a-kind designs, each piece is made from a single piece of wood, including the frame. I use shims behind certain parts to raise the image in areas to give a 3D effect. I have won several awards from the California State Fair woodworking competitions and I have had 3 pieces published in woodworking magazines. My three daughters have been posting their own artwork on DA for quite some time and have finally convinced me to make my own, I hope you enjoy what you see.

Thank you for your comments on my different projects. I have really enjoyed working on all of them. The Natural History Museum loved the Nautilus piece. They are using it in their touring display and I plan on doing 2 other pieces for them. That Groot cardholder has brought me several commissions where other artist want their own cardholder...I usually use a piece of their artwork to make them. I am working on 2 cardholders now and hope to have them posted in the next couple of weeks.

Im not in the force but i trying to get in, whats really hard to do in Croatia as the requests to came in are huge so the army can pick who will it like to serve. Im inking with a fineliner sakura or marvy pens and i render with markers. I also have pastels and oil but i want to get this good first until i start to spend expensive colors on canvas. I just love millitary, trains, firefighting, police ( to a point) and vehicles in general. I love ships too and i try to get as many books as possible to get good info on what im doing as all of that is really technical ( and history related) sometimes.
