It's great right! I loved my character when I created it in FF14 and Raichiyo perfected it with this amazing artwork :)

The linework, colors, and especially her face look beautiful. The only thing that kinda looks off is her waist. I play FFXIV myself and, while they're definitely pretty thin, this lovely lady looks a bit *too* thin. Despite that, she's still gorgeous.

For those who didn't know, the type of humanoid depicted is a female Au Ra from Final Fantasy XIV, yes, their waists are that small. The artist has done a phenomenal job capturing the scaling and such that adorns these people while keeping this particular one from appearing either too racy (as I've seen a lot of artists portray them as) or too inhuman (also too easily done by a lot of artists).

Also, that the Artist has kept the bikini to the same designs as ones found in the game shows an attention to detail even if the character's in an AU situation.

Very well done.

Waist proportions are a bit off, but that's understandable with the art style. Love it otherwise!

I'd argue that no, it's not really understandable. Being stylistic is one thing, but you still have to be anatomically correct. The waist just being off while everything else is more or less fine doesn't really make sense. This is really common for mostly male artists to not understand because they think a nonexistent waste is attractive for some reason, so they'll intentionally ignore what is anatomically correct in favor for purposely butchering female anatomy so as to create what they view as the "perfect" figure. It doesn't work because you just makes someone who looks like, depending on the angle, they have a broken back or are about to starve to death.

This art could have been so good. Look at the colors, look at the shading, look at the proportions that are correct. That stuff looks so good, but then they had to make the waist as thin as possible... Granted, this is not an easy angle to pull off no matter what.

I just chock it up to an invisible corset squeezing the waist into supertiny size.

Also, "correct female anatomy" does not apply to females of non-human species.
They may be humanoid, but that does not make them human.

Would you expect a humanoid insect (mainly exoskeleton but keeping humanesque form) creature to abide by the same physical characteristics of an endoskeleton human?

Anatomical, root being anatomy.
As character is not human, this may be anatomically correct.

I rest my case, feel free to disagree

Lol, there might as well be.

Ehhh.... I don't think there is any indication that the person in this picture being non-human gives her any non-human anatomy besides having horns and scales. There are certainly cases where non-human characters that happen to be humanoid will have very tiny waists and it will make sense, because that is how their species should look, but I don't think that's the case here. This girl looks very much human in pretty much every way and it pretty clear that she is not meant to have fantasy anatomy besides some horns and stuff. Even if this person is meant to have an unnaturally thin waist because she is not human, it still wouldn't really... Work. That works with humanoids that are far removed enough from human beings so that they don't just look like people wearing horns with some scales glued on. Those types of humanoids typically do not have human skin and instead have skin that is an inhuman color and texture, as well as anatomy far removed from the typical human being. This is literally a human being with some stuff added, and thus if she is meant to have a very thin waste, it would just come off as disconcerting and strange looking. Plus it would still probably stem from the artist's idea that women with nonexistent waists are meant to be attractive.

Although, that being said, a humanoid that looks a woman with a disturbingly little waist that is a deconstruction of art like this could be a good concept, if used to highlight how off-putting this kind of stuff looks and how it would be very unnerving to see IRL. But I think we can all see this person just thought the thin waist made her look pretty, or attractive.

True.

Personally she would have been just as sexy with a waist a few more inches in circumference.

One could have pulled off an illusion of a thin waist with shading/shadow-play.

I agree. I think the anatomy problem is just due to the angle. I've seen a few of his other art, and they look pretty good in the anatomy department. Im not, like, an expert when it comes to anatomy but yeah.

What other comments?

Edit: Oh, the Au Ra thing? I looked up Au Ras and they do have thin waists but not so thin they look abnormal. Their thin waists are because the rest of them is so petite. The girl in this picture does not look very petite, except for her waist.

If it's worth anything, on the second or so time seeing this, the waist in this picture doesn't look too bad. Once you get used to it, it looks fine.

You asked: "Proportions?"

To which I made my reply.

Giving an answer that is not fully written out to meet proper English grammar and style would seem quite appropriate a response to a one word question.

If she was human, sure.
But I see horns, and bone outgrowths.

So I am going to say humanoid but non-human, so anatomy/internal structure may be different?

:iconcindersflame:

Maybe a bit, but it still doesn't leave much room for organs of a humanoid being with that anatomy. Plus if her spine is naturally like that, then it'd be pretty hard to stand up straight which I assume the character following humanoid traits would do.

Either way it's really how the artist drew her at this point and she was obviously drawn to look sexy. So while the spine and lack of organ space are there, I don't really care to nitpick what was originally a joke poking at the pose and it's intent.
