Market Bg by Ragadabah
I want to ask. What do you want to see me make more of? Just throw some ideas down there in the comments.

When I started out with my Deviant Art I started by doing requests until there was too many for me to keep up with and my head exploded. It was always fun doing requests though because I could take some ones idea, have fun with it and not worry about them liking it. If the requester got super entitled and started complaining that I was making something that I didn't want I could just tell them to 'fuck off'. When it got too much I moved onto doing commissions which was great because I get paid to draw. People who commission are a hell of a lot more respectful and less entitled than people who demand free requests, which is odd because by virtue of paying for artwork they are entitled to it. I will respect commissioners requests to change things though, and I'll send sketches to make sure things are on track. I've never come close to feeling like telling a commissioner to 'fuck off.' The problem is commissions don't allow for the best amount of creative freedom. Some of my best requests usually pissed off the requester, I wasn't actively seeking to do that but it happened and I found it funny.

What I want to do is find a way of taking suggestions for stuff to draw that I can be really creative with. At the same time I also want too feed myself and have a roof over my head.

I feel a bit cheeky saying all that now since I do have a few upcoming commissioned projects such as a few awesome bondage pictures ( which might be too naughty for Deviant Art) and a pretty substantial comic commission which is only being held up by my inability to write good 'n stuff.

Hi Everyone! Sorry I've been so quiet for what seems like the whole of 2016. I didn't really mean for it to be this way but that's how it turned out. I haven't stopped making artwork or anything, it's just that 2016 seemed to be a year of big projects. What I've learned is that when I do a big project I get bogged down and start to go slow. Because of that 2016 wasn't really a great year for me and I'm planning on making 2017 better. But first I still need to finish this big project. Here's a sneak-peek. It's Killing me right now but Hopefully when I look back on it in a year I'll be very happy with it. It's also going to be the last big picture I do for a few years.... Unless they become incredibly profitable which I don't see happening.

There's five more on my website, click here to visit it.

So what about 2017? I plan on doing lots more little projects. I want to start getting a good drawing done every day or two, I would still like to keep doing commissions but I want to start doing lots more of my own artwork too. I'll be trying to focus my commissions on doing small things. I kind of want to do more comics and animations but I think from now on they will be personal projects because they are much easier and quicker to do when I do them for myself and if I don't like doing them I can bin then without worrying about making a client angry. I'll also be looking at ways to fund that. I'll be doing something with my patreon even if it's just putting my full sized artworks on there (personal projects, full size commissions are only available to the commissioner. I'm keeping full sized artwork off of deviant art because they claim a lot of usage rights to anything on here as part of their TOS) For the people who hate patreon I might look at other funding methods but I'll cross that bridge when I get to it.
To cut a long ramble short this year I want to make more stuff, and I want more of it to be my own stuff which I think will be more imaginative and fun.
We'll see what happens eh?

Happy New Year Everyone!

Today I'll be carrying on some work on this big beast of a picture. I'll be streaming at Piczel
piczel.tv/watch/Ragadabah
This isn't even half the picture.

On a side note I want to apologise for neglecting my Deviant Art page for so long. Not just my page but art in general. Life is being a little turbulent for me right now but as you might have noticed the bondage bug has bit me really hard and I've been getting really excited about drawing artwork (especially bondage stuff) again. This week I've been getting up and making art like a mad man and I love it. I hope this level of determination continues and I hope to make plenty of artwork you guys love.

Time for streaming. If you like to ask me anything come and chat

So contrary to my last Journal I've been quiet for the last month or so - oops. Well I was busy animating and drawing until last Friday at which point Xcom 2 came out - needless to say it's great. I spent a little bit too much time rushing through the campaign but now it's out of my system.... mostly. (It's not at all, I want to start it on hard mode)

Babyshout by Ragadabah

I keep on seeing these big blogs on tumblr that list something like 18 tip on how to be an artist which always seem 'feel good', 'super critical' or 'horribly contradictory'. When your looking for art tips just remember that artists (and people) can only really talk from personal experience so get tips from a wide variety of sources. People are going to tell you different things, a lot of it's going to be bullshit but sometimes there's nuggets of golden wisdom. How do you sort out the wisdom from the poo? Experience! If I ever have any general tips for people it's 'practice, practice, practice!' If you don't know what to draw just copy a photo or go outside and draw a.... tree?!

Oh and one more thing, if you decide to try writing because your bad at drawing just remember writing's also a skill and it requires the same amount of practice. To be honest it's probably more of a skill than drawing. If you want to write it should be because you love writing and not because you can't draw.

Any questions?

I'm back...

Jungle of the Star Borne Old ones by Ragadabah

Happy new year and belated seasonal greetings to you all.
Sorry for being quiet for so long but I had been working on my latest piece of artwork and it just took way longer than expect. Mostly because it's huge but also because bits of life kept on getting in my way. I don't have much of a life but it's enough to get in the way of making fun artwork and that's really annoying.
I'm back now though and I should be making regular updates and taking regular commissions and hopefully commenting on everyone's artwork. I also want to make more of my OWN artwork rather than commissions. I have ideas. horrible terrible nightmarish ideas that will ruffle your tiny mind - also some fun ideas too. Sadly making my own artwork is worthless but I'll still do it anyway because I have to express myself. I think to help me with this i'll be posting more sketches on tumblr because that seems like a place to post sketches and I'll be pushing my patreon more this year. I also want to do more animation and make more comics, I have no idea how I'll do that but I'll try and work something out.
I can't think of anything else to say so, uh, bye.

Working on something big (STREAMING)

Thu Nov 19, 2015, 6:56 AM
You might have noticed I've been a bit slow with my uploads for a while. That's because the awesome :iconprodigal-gamer: has commissioned a HUGE picture and it's taking some time to finish. Right now I'm working on the colouring, even though it's no where near finished I'm ready to give a sneak peek of a tiny part of it.

I'll be streaming on picarto for the rest of the day if you want to see more

Wipple by Ragadabah

Do you want to see one of these things finished? Well there's actually FOUR. Clicking on the image will take you to my website and you can explore them using a thing called zoomify. That might mean you can't see them on a mobile. This was to stop people from stealing the pics. If anyone knows a better more modern way of doing something similar please let me know. The only better solution I have is uploading them in full with a massive watermark across them.

Hopefully I should be getting a whole lot more active artistically. Either that or I've lost everything AHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!

That DA QA Thing-ay

Fri Aug 7, 2015, 2:45 AM
How long have you been on DeviantArt?
Actually it's been like 10 years. My old account's still here. I stopped using it at the encouragement of my uni tutors and that was a terrible idea. Worst course EVER!

What does your username mean?
It is just a nonsense word that came from some ones ramblings. It came about at Leeds Fest where I'd just scream it at people in a drunken frenzy. I like it because I can spell it out in katakana (if I replace the h with another a - it's the same pronunciation anyway)

Describe yourself in three words.
Boring Lazy Recluse
(I try not to be but it's so much effort)

Are you left or right handed?
Right for drawing.

What was your first deviation?
On this account.
They Say you have to be Crazy to go to Mars by Ragadabah
Not my first work by a long shot. I also find the idea of referring to my work as a deviation abhorrent.

What is your favourite type of art to create?
Go to my website to see the stuff I'm actually proud of
www.ragadabah.co.uk/
Try cute, dark and apocalyptic.

If you could instantly master a different art style, what would it be?
That semi realistic fantasy look

What was your first favourite?
Sanctuary. by oOMyuOo
What type of art do you tend to favourite the most?
Stuff that actually gets a reaction out of me.

Who is your all-time favourite deviant artist?
:icondaisy-pink71: Can win this one since she seems to have an inspirational amount of motivation and also commissions me a lot.

If you could meet anyone on DeviantArt in person, who would it be?
All them people who commission me.

How has a fellow deviant impacted your life?
:iconPoohandmelody: Was the first person to ask for a request out of the blue, before I offered requests (no I don't do requests any more so don't ask) That started me down a road to more stuff.

What are your preferred tools to create art?
A computer apparently

What is the most inspirational place for you to create art?
At my computer (it's not very inspirational)

What is your favourite DeviantArt memory?
GENZOMAN :+fav:d one of my artworks once, that was cool

Now you know too much about me and I'll have to kill you.

Sorry if my uploads have been really sparse recently. I've been working a new job and at the end of the day I'm usually knackered and too lazy to do any art (or even play video games). I have trouble achieving any sort of sane work/life/art balance because I like to do one thing only! Ideally that thing would be sitting around having fancies brought to me while I play games but since I'm not the Lord King of Everything that thing is unachievable. My second choice thing is make artwork all day and thank to my amazing commissioners that has been relatively achievable more so than at any point in my life. Still I got myself a job so I don't have to worry so much about the rent and it's just got in the way of my evil doodling plans. It's not a permanent or important thing and hopefully when the autumn comes I'll have lots of money and be able to hide away for the cold seasons while I make lots of fun artworks.

TLDR: I'm not dead or anything like that.

The Sisterhood comic - $1.49

Fri Jul 10, 2015, 2:39 PM
A long time ago I illustrated a comic called The sisterhood - Morningstar, written by a fellow called Steve Tanner.
Now randomly and out of the blue it's available on Drive Thru Comics for $1.49.

What's it about?

It's a 24 page one shot about a bunch of crazy Ultra-Violent Space-Nuns fighting some steampunk jerks as a part of some terrible crusade. We also managed to get the back story of the leader of this squad of nuns, Gehnna,  in there too. There's fighting, explosions and robots and of course sexy space nuns with chainsaw bayonet guns. What more do you want? (I want to see them fighting Space-Nazis tbh). Give it a read and if you like it tell the publishers you want more because it would be fun to see this revived.

Any questions? Leave them in the comments!

Competition

I challenge you to make some artwork based on alien abductions.

Prize

A copy of XCOM: Enemy Unknown on Steam

Deadline

Thursday 16th of July
11am GMT
(3am Deviantart time)

Where

Post a link to your artwork in a reply to this Journal for it to be counted

Rules & Guides

You must have a Steam account.

All type of artwork is accepted - pictures, games, animations, stories etc (anything you can post on da).

Not too long please.

It must stick to Deviant Art's rules.

The work doesn't have to be strictly XCOM themed since I assume people entering this competition wont be too familiar with it. There are some themes in XCOM that could help make a better picture such as - Panic, Terror, Mind Control, Zombification, Tactics, Combat, Overcoming terrible odds, being ruined on good odds (when you miss that 98% chance to hit shot).

I'll be judging on the quality of the work and the scene as a whole so try make something interesting (Hint: I like dark comedy over serious drama).

I'm the sole judge.

I might change the rules for unforeseen reasons.

Why?

I've had a copy of XCOM:EU sitting in my library for ages, I've been thinking of giving it away in a competition but never decided on what. The XCOM twitter posted my Viper picture last night and I figured now is probably the best time to do it. This has got nothing to do with any official XCOM stuff, I'm just doing it for fun.

-Update-

Some trailers for the games and some other stuff with aliens in it to help you out.

New Job Poop

Thu Jun 25, 2015, 1:14 AM
Times are a bit tough so I have got myself a part time summer job putting up tents. Hopefully this should stop me from going mental by getting me out of the house and getting me a bunch of much needed money so I can buy food. It should only be a few days a week and I should be able to keep up the artwork although I'll probably be making it a bit slower. Since my time's going to be more precious I'll probably be raising my commission prices soon.

That's right I've gone CRRRAAZZZZYYY and decided to do a request stream. It'll be a little bit of a trial for now to see how I go and hopefully I'll make it into a regular thing each weekend. Of course it will be on my Picarto channel. If there's a rush on requests I'll probably pic the funniest stuff. Don't expect my most polished work :P
