Hello deviantArt!
It's been a long time, hasn't it. I'll save you the long spiel, but I'm back. I'm focusing more on original work, both digital and traditional, and not so much on the cosplay. There will probably still be cosplay, though.

I'll be using dA as another gallery, along with my website and my tumblr, where I post sketches and occasional WIPs. I can now also be found on Twitter, although most of that is either complaining or pictures of my dog, so I don't know how much you're interested in that.

One more announcement: I will be at Fanime 2015 in the Artists' Alley, at table 219! Come say hi and check out my new work.

Hello all!
My my, how time flies.

I've been super busy, of course.  In addition to working almost full time, I am still working in the studio at UC Santa Cruz, and I recently got an internship at Kala Art Institute in Berkeley.  Put all that together and I've been putting a lot of miles on my little old car.

I'm currently working on a collaboration artbook spearheaded by lisu-c, Potato Mill volume 2 with blameshiori, and a whole bunch of other art stuff as well.  I am working on getting my Etsy store up and running, and I'll make an announcement when I've got it all set up.  I've also been doing a lot of costuming, which I will be uploading bit by bit here.

I've started a Tumblr sketchblog, although right now since I've run out of scanned sketches it's kind of becoming a cosplay spam blog.  It's here if you're interested.  I also have a Twitter now, as much as I protested that I'd never get one.  Don't expect much out of it, though.  I've got all of a dozen tweets there now.

That's about it, really.  I hope you're all well!

Well hey, maybe if I update this thing a couple times a year then I'll be good.

Things I'm currently doing:
Working
Hacking my brains out with the flu
Wasting time on the internet

Things I haven't been doing:
Art (bad me)
Working on costumes
Responsible grown-up things

Places I've been so far:
ALA 2011
San Francisco touristy things

Places I will be going:
Wondercon 2011
Fanime 2011
AX 2011
SDCC 2011
CANADALAND to visit my darling Ubastyyat
(Possibly) LBCC 2011

Costumes I'm making:
Mother Gothel (Tangled)
Atom Eve (Invincible)
Beatrix Kiddo (Kill Bill)

Things I need to do:
Doujin/art/buttons/keychains/etc. for Fanime Artist's Alley
Update portfolio (it's sad, really)
Research grad schools

It's been kind of a quiet new year.  Things are going well on the personal life front, if not the artistic front.  I need more motivation, especially with all these Fanime deadlines coming up fast.  Eek.

We'll see how it goes.  Hope you're all doing well.

You know you've been neglecting dA when you come back and you have over four thousand messages.  Hot diggity damn do I love the delete button.

I'm slowly plowing through the messages, although I've deleted all the journals and I'm not likely to look through all the deviations (sorry).  If there's anything you particularly want me to see, note me or post here and I'll kick myself in the ass and respond.

What have I been doing?  A whole lot of cosplay, that's what.  I just got back from Long Beach Comic Con, and July was San Diego Comic Con.  I have galleries of my photos up here if you're so inclined to see me running around in spandex and very little else.  Bought too many comic books and generally had a blast both times.

I've been pretty artblocked for a while now, and while I'm still making prints, I haven't really drawn much of anything for probably a few months.  It feels weird and kind of disconcerting, and I'm not sure what to do to get myself back into the groove.  I've been busy as all hell, which has something to do with it, but I miss being able to look at a page and see something that I want to put on it...and then being able to put it there, sort of.  Never to the standards I want, but isn't that what practice is for?

I suppose that's all.  I figured it was time for a new journal entry since I'm actually trying to respond to messages and post stuff at the moment.

Fanime 2010

Mon May 24, 2010, 5:29 PM
  • Reading: Invincible
This weekend I will be at Fanime's Artist Alley this year with blameshiori and lisu-c.  We're going to have a boatload of Touhou stuff for sale, from a full cast of Touhou buttons to our very own Touhou fancomic anthology.  I will also have prints of my Touhou art, as well as prints of Marvel & Fullmetal Alchemist fanart, original art for sale, and a whole bunch more.

I haven't decided which cosplays I'm bringing for sure other than Letty and casual Winry, but Reisen, Koakuma, Spider-Girl, and Coraline are all possibilities.

Give me a shout if you're going so I can say hi!  Also, buy my crap.

WonderCon 2010!

Thu Apr 8, 2010, 6:05 PM
  • Reading: Ultimate Spider-Man
  • Eating: The inside of my face
So I went to WonderCon this past weekend.  One word: fuckawesome.  Spent way too much money, met tons of awesome people (including ph1shf00d, even though I didn't know it was her at the time, haha!), didn't get nearly enough sleep, dropped my contact on a bathroom floor in the Moscone Center and DIDN'T get a raging case of pinkeye (thank god), and got a shitton of cheap trades, fuck year!

Cosplay-wise, I reprised my Squirrel Girl cosplay from last year's WonderCon- I fixed it up and fitted it a little better, and wore that on Friday.  Saturday I debuted my new Hellcat cosplay and it went over really well!  I was really proud of that one because the mask turned out better than I'd dared to hope, especially considering the cheap piece of crap I started with.  Even though I could hardly see and I had to have my friend be my Seeing-Eye Tank Girl, it was totally worth it.  On Sunday I wore another new cosplay- Spider-Girl from the MC2 universe.  I wasn't as excited about Spider-Girl because I didn't make that one (I ordered it from milanoo.com), but I still had a ton of fun wearing it and for some reason like three different camera crews interviewed me about cosplay.  Wut.

I will be uploading pictures to my cosplay.com gallery as soon as I can, as well as a few choice cosplay pictures here.

Work has been crazy busy this week and last, so I haven't had much chance to catch up on sleep/email/internet/finding my floor.  (I'm a part-timer.  What is this "over time" of which you speak?  What am I doing here at 6 pm when I'm supposed to go home at 1?)  I'll do my best to be around, but I'm scrambling to get all of my stuff done in time for Fanime.  Expect an explosion of Touhou at some point in May.

Copypasta directly from blameshiori's journal because I'm lazy and we both did the same thing...

"I'm contributing one color illustration to Mapoze's Parsee Anthology that will be released at Reitaisai, March 14th, Big Sight in Japan. It includes a lot of wonderful comics, colorful illustrations, a cute Parsee towel, and will have a music and flash on a DVD. If you're going to Reitaisai or have access to buying books from Reitaisai, please consider this one.

I'm around, sort of.  Still working on getting stuff set up (and getting un-artblocked and remotivated) so I can start busting out commissions and prints.  I will be having a table at Fanime's artist alley with lisu-c and blameshiori, and there will be Touhou.  Lots and lots of Touhou...as well as a bunch of other stuff.  I will update with more information as soon as I'm less scattered, but it might take a while.

Happy Holidays!

Here comes the usual herpaderp message- happy holidays, have a great new year, etc.

I'm going to be gone the 24th-29th- I'll be off in Pennsylvania freezing my wussy little California ass off visiting my stepmom's family.

In other news, I will be offering commission specials once I get back and figure out how to set up a paypal account.  I'm finding myself in need of money for my new computer because my Christmas bonus this year is less than half of what it was last year, and I was kind of counting on that.  Urgh.  But in the meantime, be good to each other, and stay awesome.

Update, update

Mon Jul 13, 2009, 12:37 PM
  • Reading: Cold Comfort Farm by Stella Gibbons
  • Drinking: The nectar of the gods
Well, okay, it's not much of an update.

Long story short: Fanime was fantastic, AX was awesome, I'm going to Comic-Con in two weeks (HOLY SHIT I'M GOING TO COMIC-CON), and then I'm going to spend the rest of my summer all depressed that the fun is over.

Part of the reason I've been MIA is that I just moved (to another house like a mile down the road from my old one, go figure), and I didn't get my computer set up until now because I've been so busy with cosplay/con stuff.  We also got a dog!  I rambled a bit about her in my livejournal, but she's a black lab, about a year and a half old.  Her name is May, and she's a right royal pain in the ass because she's a teenager testing her limits to see what she can get away with.

If people are interested, I can post some cosplay pictures on my LJ.  I probably won't do a full con report because I'm spectacularly lazy, but the thought's always there.

I do have a LOT of pictures to scan (40+, no, really), but my scanner is currently out of commission because of those friggin' TWAIN interface problems again.  Hopefully that will be cleared up soon and I can get to scanning.

<3 to you all!

Wait, what? (And Show Announcement!)

Sun Apr 19, 2009, 4:18 PM
...Now I'm twenty-four.

Almost a year between journal entries, not bad.  I'm alive, believe it or not.  Lots of things happening, not the least of which is my very first official art show!
I am going to be included in the Frank Bette Center for the Arts Heroes & Villains Graphic Novel art showcase.  I will be exhibiting approximately five works, including pieces from my printmaking portfolio as well as some new work.

The show will run from May 1st to May 30, with the opening reception on Friday, May 1st, from 7-9 PM.  If you're in the area (Alameda, CA), stop on by and check it out!
The Frank Bette Center's website

Also, I've finally gotten off my butt and put together a proper portfolio website (with 95% of the actual work done by my beloved Ubastyyat ), which you can see here:
RabidPotato.com

If you're into the convention/cosplay scene, I'm going to be at Fanime and AX this year- give me a jingle so I can say hi.  I'll be cosplaying Letty Whiterock from Touhou Project, Coraline, and Winry Rockbell from Fullmetal Alchemist at Fanime, and  hopefully those same cosplays plus Yukari Yakumo from Touhou for AX.

And, as always, for more arts that I don't bother with putting here, there's always my LiveJournal.
That's all for now.  Hope everybody's doing well!

RabidPotato.com // Potatoart // Potatosketch
I'm graduated.

I suppose that means I don't have any more excuse to ignore the internet, doesn't it.  I've spent the last month traveling, and it's been awesome fun.  I might post a writeup of AX, Disneyland, and all that in my LJ, but I'm supremely lazy,  We'll see.

In the meantime, I'll see what I can do about uploading moar artses, adding people I've wanted to add, and commenting on things.  But, like I keep saying, no guarantees.

It's good to be back, though.  I can't remember the last time I didn't have a deadline lurking like a guillotine over my head.
I'm twenty-three.
When the hell did that happen?
Spring break is over already.  Now I'm into my last quarter EVER, and I'm going to die horribly.
The good news is, I finally scanned all of my really big prints, so I have something to show.  Not really anything new-new, but oh well.

My livejournal (which now has TWO actual entries in it now, aren't you proud of me?) is here.
I'm even inching into livejournal for the first time, after making one and then ignoring it for three years.  I'll probably just be using it to post art and random stupid stuff.

Ta-da!

The quarter's started again, which means it's back into the meatgrinder for me.  I'll try to stay around.
My grand comeback sort of fell by the wayside, didn't it.  Oops.  Chalk it up to working my ass off during the quarter and then being a lazy bum over the holiday break.

I'm starting a new quarter on Tuesday, wish me luck.

In other news, Brendan is a super sweetheart and drew me a welcome-back artwork of Puck! brendankeeley.deviantart.com/a…
Now I HAVE to hang around, can't let such a sweet welcome-back present be made in vain. ^^

....FUUUUUUUUUCK.
Hi guys.

It's been a while.

Lots of things have changed.  It's to be expected, of course.  I'm not really sure where to begin, other than that I think I'm a happier person now.  If not happier (because I was doing pretty well before), then more content at least.  I've tacked a creative writing double major onto my art degree so I'm going into my 5th year at school with the goal of writing until my fingers bleed.  My life has settled a little now, to the point where I feel like I can take on dA again.

Art-wise, I've become a printmaker.  I've finally found a medium that I feel really good with, that I can express what I want to with.  Most of the stuff that I'll be uploading will be prints, if I can get decent photos or scans of them.  Prints are notoriously hard to photograph.  My style's definitely changed, I hope for the better.

I'm going to start fresh.  I had such a backlog of stuff that I wanted to upload in chronological order that sat around to the point that I don't like them anymore, so I'm not going to worry about order or keeping things tidy.  If I run across something in my folders and I like it, I'll upload it and do my best to remember who/what/where/when/why it was drawn.  In the meantime, I have a lot of sorting to do.  I feel like I need to push myself more and create pictures that are more ambitious, especially with CG.  My poor tablet's all dusty.

I'm slowly creeping back into the internet.  I can't promise I'll be able to comment or be active like I used to, and I know it's not fair to ask you to comment on my stuff when I can't comment on yours.  I had over 3000 deviations in my message center and over 600 messages…I had to be brutal, they all had to go, I'm sorry.  The problem was that if I went through them I'd never be able to finish them all, as much as I'd like to look at each and every one of them. If there's anything you wanted me to see or comment on or read, please do let me know here or in a note.  Thank you for all the comments and adds and favs in my absence, I can't really thank you all individually but I do appreciate it all the same.

Enough about me.  How have YOU guys been?

It's good to be back.

<3 Liz

Holy shit I'm 21!

That means the stuff I've been doing all along is now LEGAL!  WOOO!!!

....And now all I have to look forward to is decline, senility and death.  Go me.

(Copy & pasted from the last entry)

Oh, and by the way, hello!  I'd say I have lots of stuff to upload and lots of time now to comment on everyone's lovely lovely artwork, but I'd be lying and I've never been very good at that.  Suffice it to say I'm sort of coming back, but not really...I guess just enough to make this page look less like a mausoleum (or would that be obituary?).

I'm really excited about my classes this quarter...two out of three, anyway.  I'm taking relief printmaking (YAY!), figure drawing (HUGE YAY!), and....economics.  Woo ha.  Feel the excitement dripping from my words.  It'll be a miracle if I can make it through the quarter without running screaming from the classroom at least once.

But so it goes.  Hopefully I'll be back around here more eventually.

Tagged by kitton, curse her engineery bones...

Rules: The 1st player of this "game" starts with the topic "6 weird habits/things about yourself" and people who get tagged need to write a journal about their 6 weird habits/things as well as state this rule clearly. In the end, you need to choose the next 6 people to be tagged and list their names. Don't forget to leave a comment that says "you are tagged" in their devpage comments and tell them to read yours....

1.  I'm really obsessive about wiping my mouth when I eat, to the point where I don't even really notice when I wipe my mouth after each bite.  I just can't stand the thought of having food on my face and I'm not sure why.

2.  I have a fairly noticeable facial scar from a kiddie ride accident on/below my lip.  I need to practice saying that I got it in a knife fight to make it more interesting.

3.  I think trains are the freakin' coolest thing since sliced bread.

4.  So are mushrooms.

5.  I absolutely HATE people touching my nose.  I'd rather get punched in the eye than have someone tap my nose.

6.  I moderate MOB!  Which is awesomeness squared and you all should submit.  It's a drawing contest.  Click the banner, yo.
...Okay, so it's not weird, but as kitton said, an extra plug doesn't hurt.

That was way harder than it should have been.  Am I really that boring?
